Corn Nitrogen Efficiency Product Trials There are many companies grabbing onto the green market and wanting to promote products that help corn plants fix their own nitrogen, therefore making nitrogen fertilizer more efficient and lowering application rates of N fertilizers. Most of these products are composed of bacteria that have been noted to help plants fix their own N and most contain 1 to 2 species of bacteria. Some of these products are using bacteria that are only naturally occurring in certain geographies. Scientifically we wonder if these species will even survive outside of these regions. Most of these products promote that N rates do not need to be reduced in order to realize the benefit of their use. Therefore, as we setup and designed these trials we just added the product and did not reduce N rates.
