Corn Nitrogen Placement Trials Nitrogen placement and timing can be critical to maintaining top end yields. Nitrogen fertilizer can be lost through leaching, immobilization, or denitrification and the N cycle is extremely dynamic leading agronomists looking for methods to minimize losses. Split application of N is one of the best ways to limit losses of N. This trial was designed to demonstrate the value of placing fertilizer underground in addition to the benefits of splitting N fertilizer into 3 or more applications for improved yield. For this trial, we used 33% of the N applied via strip-till as a check and compared that to 33%, 66% and 100% surface applied pre plant.
