VOLUNTEERS IN POLICE
VACATION HOME CHECKS
Are you interested in becoming a Volunteer In Police Services (VIPS)? We are always looking for new additions to our volunteer program. As a volunteer, you provide valuable support by assisting with various non-enforcement duties, including our Records Division, event support, Vacation Home Checks, and our You Are Not Alone (Y.A.N.A.), Neighborhood Watch/Meet Your Neighbor, and Business Watch programs. Volunteers contribute to a safer community by being an extra pair of “eyes and ears” and assisting with crime prevention efforts. For more information about our VIPS program or to apply, contact Community Outreach Coordinator Kelley Krahling at kkrahling@placentia.org.
With Summer right around the corner, we want to remind everyone about our Vacation Home Check service offered through our VIPS. If you are going out of town for more than 3 days and would like to have extra eyes on your home while you are away, you can complete and submit the online form (3 days before you leave) available on our website, and our VIPS will perform regular checks of your property. Please visit www.placentia.org/vacationchecks to complete the application.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE (Y.A.N.A.)
We want to remind everyone about our Y.A.N.A. program, a free service offered by the Placentia Police Department, for residents of the City of Placentia. If you or someone you know is a senior citizen, disabled, lives alone, is homebound, or simply needs someone to check in on them, you can register for our Y.A.N.A. program. Our VIPS will work with you to establish a regular schedule for contacting you. This program will offer peace of mind and a sense of security for those who enjoy their independence but have no friends or family to check in on them. Visit www.placentia.org/police to sign up. MILITARY BANNER RECOGNITION PROGRAM The Placentia Military Banner Recognition Program is accepting applications for its 2026 installation, honoring active-duty service members and honorably discharged veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces with banners displayed throughout the city. Honorees must either live in Placentia, have worked in the city for at least one year, or have enlisted from Placentia. Immediate family members (parent, spouse, child, or grandparent) who live in Placentia may also apply on their behalf. Proof of military service (DD214 or Statement of Service) is required. Applications are due by October 21, 2026. Banners will be installed in November and remain on display for two years. Visit www.placentia.org/militarybanner for more information and to apply.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2026
This year’s National Night Out event will be held on Tuesday, August 4th from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Tri-City Park.
We will be joined by Placentia Fire and Life Safety, Placentia Public Safety Communications Center, Placentia Police K9 Foundation, and many more! There will be hands-on activities, live demonstrations, information booths hosted by businesses and civic groups, food, and fun for everyone to enjoy. This is a great opportunity to meet your First Responders, ask questions, try on gear, see equipment, and learn more about the different jobs performed by each Department. You’ll also learn about the resources in and around Placentia for you and your family.
If you are interested in being a vendor at National Night Out, visit www.placentia.org/NNO.
