The John Nenno House, built in 1907–1908, is a prominent two-story Craftsman Bungalow with Colonial Revival elements that reflects Placentia’s early agricultural roots. John Nenno originally purchased the 9-acre ranch in 1892, where he built a smaller home and planted citrus before constructing the larger residence. The Nenno family was active in the community and frequently hosted gatherings at the home. In later years, the house was used as a fraternity residence before being modified into an office building.

The Gilbert Kraemer House, built in 1918, with Oriental influences, located in Placen Gilbert Kraemer, one of ten children of S and his wife, Esther Munger, across from h ranch estates, which featured barns and a House emphasized recreational facilities, pool, and expansive lawns. The Key Ranch, built in 1898 and remodeled in 1908, is a Colonial Revival and Craftsman-style home that reflects the success of Placentia’s early citrus ranchers. After the County of Orange purchased the property in the early 1980s, it was preserved and is now known as the Key Ranch Historic Park.

VOLUNTEERS IN POLICE

VACATION HOME CHECKS

Are you interested in becoming a Volunteer In Police Services (VIPS)? We are always looking for new additions to our volunteer program. As a volunteer, you provide valuable support by assisting with various non-enforcement duties, including our Records Division, event support, Vacation Home Checks, and our You Are Not Alone (Y.A.N.A.), Neighborhood Watch/Meet Your Neighbor, and Business Watch programs. Volunteers contribute to a safer community by being an extra pair of “eyes and ears” and assisting with crime prevention efforts. For more information about our VIPS program or to apply, contact Community Outreach Coordinator Kelley Krahling at kkrahling@placentia.org.

With Summer right around the corner, we want to remind everyone about our Vacation Home Check service offered through our VIPS. If you are going out of town for more than 3 days and would like to have extra eyes on your home while you are away, you can complete and submit the online form (3 days before you leave) available on our website, and our VIPS will perform regular checks of your property. Please visit www.placentia.org/vacationchecks to complete the application.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE (Y.A.N.A.)‌

We want to remind everyone about our Y.A.N.A. program, a free service offered by the Placentia Police Department, for residents of the City of Placentia. If you or someone you know is a senior citizen, disabled, lives alone, is homebound, or simply needs someone to check in on them, you can register for our Y.A.N.A. program. Our VIPS will work with you to establish a regular schedule for contacting you. This program will offer peace of mind and a sense of security for those who enjoy their independence but have no friends or family to check in on them. Visit www.placentia.org/police to sign up. MILITARY BANNER RECOGNITION PROGRAM The Placentia Military Banner Recognition Program is accepting applications for its 2026 installation, honoring active-duty service members and honorably discharged veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces with banners displayed throughout the city. Honorees must either live in Placentia, have worked in the city for at least one year, or have enlisted from Placentia. Immediate family members (parent, spouse, child, or grandparent) who live in Placentia may also apply on their behalf. Proof of military service (DD214 or Statement of Service) is required. Applications are due by October 21, 2026. Banners will be installed in November and remain on display for two years. Visit www.placentia.org/militarybanner for more information and to apply.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2026

This year’s National Night Out event will be held on Tuesday, August 4th from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Tri-City Park.

We will be joined by Placentia Fire and Life Safety, Placentia Public Safety Communications Center, Placentia Police K9 Foundation, and many more! There will be hands-on activities, live demonstrations, information booths hosted by businesses and civic groups, food, and fun for everyone to enjoy. This is a great opportunity to meet your First Responders, ask questions, try on gear, see equipment, and learn more about the different jobs performed by each Department. You’ll also learn about the resources in and around Placentia for you and your family.

SUMMER SAFETY SERIES

GRILLING SAFETY

Simple Tips. Safer Summers. As summer begins, your Fire and Life Safety Department has a few grilling safety tips to keep everyone safe. We encourage everyone to practice good grilling habits year-round, but the summer months pose an increased hazard due to higher temperatures and quickly drying vegetation. To ensure a fun and safe time, follow these tips when cooking outdoors.

NEVER LEAVE GRILLS UNATTENDED

SAFETY INSPECTIONS Community Risk Reduction Division:

The Fire & Life Safety Department has successfully implemented our fire inspection program designed to reduce risks by preventing fires through education and enforcement of the locally adopted California Fire Code. Businesses, commercial buildings, and multi-family residences are inspected annually, and all new developments are inspected during construction. The State Fire Marshal requires annual inspections for residential occupancies with three or more units. In Placentia, these inspections are largely performed by fire suppression personnel. Low-hazard businesses are inspected by our firefighters through the Engine Company Inspection Program, while fire prevention specialists (fire inspectors) conduct all other inspections, including commercial occupancies and large residential facilities such as multi-story apartments and hotels. During inspections, our staff check that fire protection systems are properly maintained, exits and pathways are clear, fire extinguishers are accessible, hazardous processes are performed safely, fire lanes are unobstructed, and addresses are visible from the street.

The State Fire Marshal also allows local fire departments to charge cost-recovery fees for inspections, which reflect staff time and are reviewed and approved annually by the City Council.

Have questions about our annual fire inspection program? Contact the Community Risk Reduction Division at (714) 993-8135 or firecrr@placentia.org.

PLACENTIA’S

EXPAND THE FOREST

PROGRAM

T

he City of Placentia is still accepting applications for its Expand the Forest Program! This program, adopted as part of the City’s Urban Forest Management Program, allows residents to purchase and dedicate a tree to commemorate a loved one or special event. Planting a tree in a City Park is a special way to honor a loved one and provides a gift to the whole community by contributing to the expansion of the City’s Urban Forest. A dedication tree can be planted in a City Park, and potential tree sponsors can use a Park map to identify their preferred park and planting location(s). The cost to purchase and plant a tree will be funded by the tree sponsor and is based on the current contract price paid by the City for 24-inch box trees. The current cost is $390 for an Expand the Forest tree. Once a location is selected and payment for the tree has been received, the City will

arrange to have the tree planted by the City’s landscape maintenance contractor, with or without the sponsor(s) in attendance, depending on their preference. Once planted, the City will assume maintenance responsibilities to care for the tree. The tree sponsor(s) will receive a certificate signed by the Mayor in appreciation of their tree sponsorship and will be acknowledged in the City’s Quarterly Newsletter. Residents can participate by completing an Expand the Forest Program application and submitting it to the Public Works Department at urbanforest@placentia.org or in person at 401 E. Chapman Avenue. The application is available online at www.placentia.org/urbanforest and at City Hall. For more information on this program, contact us at (714) 993-8148 or urbanforest@placentia.org.
