BODY FLUID SPILLAGE

Always notify MOD or member of Senior Management. GENERAL AREAS (Guestrooms, Corridors, Lobby, Meeting Rooms, etc.) CLEAN-UP AND SAFETY PROCEDURES HARD SURFACES: FLOORS, TABLETOPS, ETC.

1. Clear immediate area of guests and Associates. 2. Place hazard warning sign “cleaning in progress.” 3. Wear PPE (disposable gloves and disposable plastic apron). 4. Use disposable paper towels to soak up excess fluid and organic matter, double bag and place in clinical waste bag immediately. 5. Cover remaining spillage with approved cleaning agent and leave for five minutes. 6. Mop up area with disposable towels. Double bag and place in clinical waste bag immediately.

7. Discard used gloves and apron in the clinical waste bag. 8. Wash area with detergent and hot water and dry thoroughly. 9. Thoroughly wash hands with soap and water.

CLEAN-UP AND SAFETY PROCEDURES SOFT SURFACES: CARPET, UPHOLSTERY, CLOTHING, ETC. 1. Mop up excess fluid with disposable towels, spray with approved cleaning agent and leave to dry. If stained, sponge with cold water and clean with detergent and hot water. Steam cleaning may be necessary. Soft furnishings and carpets which are very badly soiled may need to be disposed of as clinical waste. 2. Sponge clothing with lukewarm water and machine wash as soon as possible on hot cycle. Ironing will also help eradicate pathogenic bacteria. 3. Thoroughly wash hands with soap and water.

POOL/SPA

• Notify a member of Senior Management or MOD. • Remove guests from the pool/spa and immediately close the area. • Do not re-open the area or allow guests to enter until decontamination is complete.
