FIRE SAFETY PROCEDURES NOTE: Specific Action Plans by department are located at the end of this section.
ACTIVATION OF FIRE ALARM: • When the Fire Alarm sounds, all Associates are to follow their department-specific procedures in this section and/or instructions from the MOD. DISCOVERING A FIRE • Activate the nearest fire alarm pull station. • Dial “0” and inform the operator of your name, location and the type of fire. • Never assume someone else has reported the situation. • If the fire is small and can be safely contained, locate the nearest fire extinguisher and attempt to put out the fire. NEVER RISK YOUR OWN SAFETY! • Never allow the fire to come between yourself and the exit. Small Fire: One that can be easily put out with a handheld extinguisher, the size of a medium trash can, 3 - 5” diameter with no large flames. CAUTION: A small fire can be just as dangerous as a large fire. Use extreme care. Large Fire: One that presents a lot of smoke, fumes, heat, or large flames. This is considered “out -of- control” and is to be handled by the Fire Department. Use extreme caution as this is a deadly situation without proper equipment or training. FALSE ALARM OR ALARM DUE TO SCHEDULED FIRE DRILL: • If believed to be a false alarm, do not silence the alarm without guidance from the Fire Department. It could be a false reading. • Designated Associate (PBX, MOD, Security, etc.) will make the appropriate announcement: “Ladies and Gentlemen, may I have your attention please. We have inspected the site of the alarm, and no emergency exists. I repeat, no emergency exists. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience. We appreciate your cooperation. Thank you!” OR “Ladies and Gentlemen, the Hotel is conducting a fire drill training. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience. We appreciate your cooperation. Thank you!”
