FIRE SAFETY PROCEDURES: FRONT OFFICE (PBX, FRONT DESK, BELL SERVICES, VALET)

LOCATIONS Fire Extinguisher Fire Alarm Pull Station Exit Route Assembly Point (designated meeting place)

PBX • When the alarm is activated, quickly read the screen on the Remote Fire Panel to determine the location of the problem. • Radio Engineering to advise the Remote Fire Panel reading(s). Speak in a calm and clear voice. • Notify MOD and confirm MOD is at or going to the Command Center. • Issue instructions over the radio to cease all non-emergency radio communications. FRONT DESK • Print at least four copies of the occupancy report. Retain one copy at Front Desk. • Identify ADA guests or any other guests who may need assistance. • Deliver copies of the occupancy report to: MOD, ENGINEERING, HOUSEKEEPING In the event of limited staff, the Front Desk will recruit an Associate from another department to deliver the rooming lists. • Remain in constant radio contact with MOD, Engineering, and Housekeeping to ensure proper communications about what is happening (fire is spreading, fire is under control, etc.) Communication is Critical! RECOMMENDED PUBLIC ADDRESS ANNOUNCEMENT ON EVACUATION, ONLY IF INSTRUCTED BY THE MOD: “Ladies and Gentlemen, may I have your attention please. We have a situation within our building and feel that your evacuation is necessary. Please take your room key and leave your room. Please go to the nearest emergency stairwell and proceed to the ground floor and immediately exit the building to the parking lot area. Do not use the elevators. If you see smoke, use an alternative emergency stairwell away from the area of smoke. If there is smoke in the stairwell, return to your room and dial “O” for assistance from the operator.” Speak in a calm and clear voice, with authority. DO NOT USE THE WORDS “EMERGENCY” OR “FIRE.” If a guest asks for more information: “We are uncertain at this time but are investigating the matter. We recommend you leave the building to ensure your safety.”
