Karine Blanc, The Blau & Berg Company “Everything in life that is worthwhile is uphill”

In this industry you have a lot of difficult conversations, you balance a lot of different personalities, and you can go a long time without a paycheck. Who do you feel was most influential in your life when choosing this pro- fession? My daughter Aiva. I was five months pregnant when I started working as a broker and I wanted a career that would be fulfilling, but also give me the flexibility to spend time with her. What is the funniest, most unique situation you have faced / conquered during your career? Or in your life? As a black woman in com- mercial real estate people as- sume you are everyone BUT the real estate professional. It’s always awkward. What outside activities do you enjoy during your free time? I never turn down a good winery, boat ride, or walk. What inspiring word of advice would you give to a young executive graduat- ing from college today? Everything in life that is worthwhile is uphill.  these are a few of my favorite things College: Rutgers University Newark Book: Great Expectations Movie: Get Out App: Insight Timer Team: Lebron James Sport: Basketball Food:

What unique qualities and or personality do you feel makes you most suc- cessful in your profession? I like the business aspect just as much as the relation- ship aspect. My mother was a psychologist and my father worked in finance so I was born to like people and num- bers equally. What challenges and or obstacles do you feel you needed to overcome to be- come as successful as you are today? I had to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Transitioning from my 9-5 to brokerage. Making the leap is hard. It’s true that life begins outside your comfort zone. What impact has social media / networking had on your career? Social media is an opportu- nity for people to get to know you, your ideas, and what you do. You can reach so many people in a short amount of time – there’s nothing like it. Networking is a great way
