He said, but He sought only the glory of Him who sent Him. Never did He parade His own power though He had limitless power. Never did He an nounce His own sinlessness, though He was pure in heart, mind, and deed. Jan. 21, 1951 I ASKED GOD, AND . . . 2 Chron. 7:14; Matt. 21:22; 5:43-46; Rom. 8:26, 28; Phil. 4:6,7 God always answers prayer. Some times His answer is “ Yes,” sometimes “No.” It may be that He will say, “Wait.” We know sometimes He says, “ Perhaps.” The answer to some pray ers is based on obedience and the request is granted if the suppliant fulfills the conditions. The answer to other prayers is unconditional. He grants the request just out of His own sovereign will and love and grace. We may truly say that no one ever cries to God without receiving an an swer. Sometimes the Answer is “ Yes” Psa. 78:19 God’s answer may not come in the way we expect. Certainly Israel did not expect bread from Heaven nor water from a rock nor a highway through the sea. God gave the answer in His own great way. God seems to enjoy doing the unusual in meeting the need of His people. He opened the prison gates for Peter though Peter did not expect it. He filled the ditches with water though Israel had not planned it. He fed Elijah in un usual ways. This is our God. Sometimes the Answer is “No” Luke 11:11 In this passage, the little child thought that what he saw was bread. He wanted bread for his hunger and asked for that which he saw, but it was stone. At another time he saw a snake in the grass and thought it was an eel for he had seen his mother cook eels. At another time he saw a scorpion rolled in a ball and ready to strike. The little one thought it was an egg and earnestly asked for it. In each case, the father knew better and said, “ No.” We may expect the Lord to say “No” when the thing for which we ask is not good for us. Sometimes the Answer is “ Wait” Luke 9:30 If our Lord asks us to wait for the answer it probably is because He has something better to give us than that for which we asked. Moses prayed most earnestly that he might cross the Jordan into the promised land and enjoy the milk and honey that was there. He had to wait for the answer, over 1850 years. The Lord intended to take him and he did go
