Wildcats plow through rugby opposition
for the annual Earl of March Spring Tune- Up. Their first match against South Carle- ton finished in a five-all tie, with each team scoring one try. The second and third matches against Barrhaven’s Longfields-DavidsonHigh and Smith Falls finished with theWildcats shred- ding the Barrhaven team 40-5 and taking Smith Falls down 10-5 in what Coach An- drew Lawford noted proved a tough match for the Cats. “It was a hard game,” Lawford com-
mented. “We won because we played such a good defence. They (Smith Falls players) were big.” He noted the tie-match earlier with South Carleton was a case of allowing too many errors on the field. “We weren’t sharp. Toomanymistakes. I think we were the better rugby team.” Lawford is trying to set up another match for RDHS with Ashbury College before the junior rugby season is over. If not, then the focus is on plans next year for an exhibition field trip to British Columbia.
