Printed Sensors Market To Reach $10.46 Billion

The printed sensors market was valued at $6.71 billion in 2015 and is expected to reach $10.46 bil- lion by 2022, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 7.0 percent between 2016 and 2022, according to a new report from MarketsandMarkets. The growth of this market is propelled by the advan- tages offered by printed sensors over conventional silicon-based sensors. Unlike the conventional sensor technology, printed sensors are flexible, thin, lightweight, and organic, ac- cording to the report. The disadvantages of conventional sensors such as rigidity, bulkiness, and complex architecture among others are largely overcome by printed sensors. Thus, the demand for printed sensors is expected to grow significantly in the near future.

Double E Company Purchases Appleton Mfg. Division Double E Company, West Bridgewater, Massachu- setts, recently purchased Appleton Mfg. Division. Headquartered in Neenah, Wisconsin, Appleton Mfg. Division joins Epoch Rollers and Double E Europe (STCMi), under the Incline Equity Partners owned, Double E Company LLC group. Flexible Packaging Market To Reach $125 Billion The f lexible packaging market will be worth $125.66 billion by 2021, up from $97.97 billion in 2016, growing at a CAGR of 5.11 percent, according to a new report from MarketsandMarkets. This growth is due to the increasing demand from various end user industries such as food & beverages, healthcare, cosmetics & toiletries, and others (oil & lu- bricants, household products, agricultural products, and sporting goods). Factors such as growing con- sumer preferences towards convenient packaging, ease of use, and its lightweight characteristic is driving the demand for flexible packaging, said the report. The stand-up pouches segment is estimated to ac- count for the largest share in 2021, mainly because of growing consumption of food & beverage, dairy, and cosmetics products. The growing healthcare industry also provides an opportunity to the market to grow further due to the rising consumption of over-the-counter products for which stand-up pouches are used, especially in the emerging markets of Asia-Pacific and Latin America. The Asia-Pacific region accounted for the largest share among all the regions in 2015 in the flexible packaging market and is projected to grow at the highest rate from 2016 to 2021, in terms of value. This is mainly due to the increasing demand for flexible packaging in China and India, coupled with the growing food & beverage industry in these coun- tries. Owing to the increasing disposable incomes, the urbanized population is shifting towards pack- aged foods which are healthy and safe. Roll-To-Roll Printing Market Worth $35.79 Billion By 2022 The roll-to-roll printing market for flexible devices is expected to grow from $16.31 billion in 2015 to reach $35.79 billion by 2022, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 11.04 percent between 2016 and 2022, accord- ing to a new report from MarketsandMarkets.

Next Generation Customer Program Benefits Students Sun Chemical has developed a program designed to help students obtain the tools they need and hands- on training required to understand every aspect of the ink business in the flexographic printing process. The program, Sun Chemical Next Generation Cus- tomer (NGC), is designed to help form relationships with future business partners, customers, co-suppli- ers and possibly even employees. Flexo Partnership The idea of the program started through a partner- ship with the Phoenix Challenge Foundation, a non- profit organization with a mission to promote the growth of the flexographic printing process in the educational system throughout North America. The Phoenix Challenge was created to develop a compe- tition between flexography students at a variety of different colleges and high schools throughout the United States that teach prepress, platemaking, print- ing skills and basic theory. The college competition begins every year during the Flexographic Technical Association’s INFO*FLEX show. Students from each of the schools are given an

assignment that includes finding a customer, under- standing their marketing/sales goals, developing a package or label to help sell the product, and print- ing the final package/label. Sun Chemical’s NGC program helps students in the Phoenix Challenge by sending experts who give ad- vice and teach all aspects of the ink business in the printing process from color matching on different sub- strates to how to incorporate special effect coatings. Pilot Program This past school year, Sun Chemical piloted its Next Generation Customer program at Central Piedmont Community College, based in Charlotte, North Caroli- na. After assessing the needs of the college, Sun Chemical donated its SunMatch computer software to best help the students achieve success in the Phoenix Challenge. SunMatch reportedly helps stu- dents more accurately achieve the right brand color on a variety of substrates and understand how to achieve colors through scientific numbers. Throughout the school year, Sun Chemical experts came to the college to teach and give hands-on expe- rience to help students understand every aspect of the ink business in the flexographic printing process.

plate making, workflow automation, quality assurance, sample-making, palletization, supply chain collabora- tion and the production of signage and displays. The MacDermid sales and technical services teams worked with Esko during the seminar to increase their level of understanding and knowledge of the Esko product portfolio and how it supports and man- ages the packaging and print processes for brand owners, retailers, designers, packaging manufacturers and print service providers. The Esko training for MacDermid highlighted solu- tions from their suite of software as well as two hard- ware product lines: CDI f lexo computer-to-plate imagers and Kongsberg digital cutting systems. Working in its Atlanta Technical Demonstration fa- cility, Esko taught MacDermid personnel how to best use Esko screening and imaging solutions to maxi- mize the performance of MacDermid’s line of digital flexo plates, including the LUX ITP products offering Flat-Top Dot solutions. The training also covered Esko’s new CDI Crystal 5080 XPS, which combines the imaging technology with new LED main and back exposure into a single operation. Global Demand For Wine Packaging To Reach $22.8B Global demand for wine packaging including con- tainers, closures, and accessories is projected to in- crease 2.3 percent per year to $22.8 billion in 2020, according to World Wine Packaging: Containers, Clo- sures & Accessories , a new study from The Freedonia Group, a Cleveland, Ohio-based industry research firm. Growth will be sustained by continued, albeit moder- ate, increases in global wine production, despite de- clining per capita consumption rates in Europe, which accounted for about 60 percent of consumption and nearly 65 percent of production in 2015. Europe will continue to be the largest regional wine packaging market for the foreseeable future, while North America and the Asia/Pacific region will offer better growth opportunities through 2020. In North America, growth in U.S. wine production will be well above the global average, mainly due to the increased popularity of wine, which is now seen more as an everyday beverage rather than something only for holidays or special events. In the Asia/Pacific region, China has become one of the largest produc- ers and consumers of wine, although consumption rates remain very low by global standards. Australia and New Zealand are the other major wine packag- ing markets in the region.

The SCIENCE of flexo rollers and sleeves Skilled flexo printers know any variation in temperature, humidity, substrates and a host of other conditions will affect the quality of their work. Cleanliness of lines, accuracy of colors and softness of shades can make or break a job. But if you want to maximize profits, you need to optimize uptime, speed and quality. The anilox rollers and sleeves in your presses are only as good as the science behind them— the technology of precision . ARC rollers and sleeves are built to exacting OEM dimensions, with cell geometries engineered for efficient ink usage and precise volumes. Asian Demand For Release Liners Remains Strong Asian demand for release liners across their many applications, from labels to food and bakery, hygiene, and tapes, is the highest in the world, representing 37 percent of the total global market. The newly-published sixth edition of the Asian Re- lease Liner Market Study from AWA Alexander Wat- son Associates provides in-depth data and analysis of release liner in this key geographic region, today and tomorrow. In 2015, 47 percent of Asian release liner was consumed in pressure-sensitive label applica- tions. While glassine/SCK paper release base is the preferred medium for labels,Asian climatic conditions continue to support polyolefin-coated paper as the re- lease base of choice, with a 29 percent market share. In terms of future growth — predicted to be around 7.6 percent annually in Asia in the next few years — AWA research shows that it is the medical, tape, and industrial market segments that will con- tribute most. This trend is supporting lively invest- ment, ; production capacity investments in China alone could potentially handle doubled demand within the next five years.
