Vars farmers market idea shelved

There is start-up funding available from the City of Ottawa through its cultural support program for a farmers market but one of the conditions is there must be an organizational committee or even a part- time project manager hired to look after setting up the venue, booking the vendors, and doing the necessary clerical work. “Theideaisthere,”saidJeanSéguin,VCA president. “We haven’t shut it down.” The associationwill return to the idea in thefallandbegintheplanningprocessagain. One point, both McCannell and Séguin
noted,outofallthefeedbackreceivedisthat Vars should schedule its farmersmarket so that the event avoids having to compete on the same day and time as the large and successfuloneinnearbyCumberland. The annual summer farmers market is a bighitoverinneighbouringCumberlandso why shouldn’t Vars host one also? ThesuggestedlocationisAlcideTrudeau Park on Rockdale Road and the planwould be to have the market every Saturday from May to September.
