W I TH THE B I BLE WOMEN A girl helped to see God's will for her life. She will become a s t u d e nt volunteer for foreign missionary ser- vice. An interesting Jewish conversion at the County Hospital in connection with t he C. E. work, is reported by one of our workers. A girl who has been in her own light was led to see t h at it was herself she was looking at, in place of Christ. Th r o u gh t he Spirit she came to realize Galatians 2:20. God is now using her wonderfully to do His will. A girl whose life h as been void of power, t h o u gh in a place of big oppor- tunity, t h r o u gh a talk which God used to search her life, and a personal con- versation a f t e r wa r d, was led to put away the thing which hindered and is today full of joy and being used of God. About t he first of September, 1912, a Bible was given to a young Jewess by the chaplain, Dr. Ross, who is doing such effective work in the hospital. F r om t he first, she was very much in- terested in the Wo rd of God. Only intending to read t he Old Testament, she began in Genesis, but one day one of t he workers finding her reading t he Bible said, "Wh e re a re you r e a d i n g ?" Looking up guiltily, she answered, "Oh, I was reading in the New T e s t ame n t ," a fact she was evidently ashamed of and, later, denied to t he other patients. About this time Mr. W. E. Black- stone's leaflet, "How shall we know H i m ? " was given her with the sugges- tion t h at she ma ke a study of t he Scripture quotations, the worker prom- ising to r e t u rn and answer any ques- tions or objections she might have. This questioning d u r i ng several inter- views lead to a consideration of t he New Testament. She was requested to read t he Gospel of J o hn and the first ten chapters of Acts. The thorough- ness of her r e a d i ng of the Scripture was proven by the ease with which she t u r n ed to the different passages, stud- ied and ma r k e d, and the intelligence of her questions, some of which were:

S C H O OL N O T E S The total n umb er of regularly en- rolled students is now seventy-two. Will our f r i e n ds unite with us in prais- ing God for so ma ny lives devoted to t r a i n i ng for His service, and in pray- ing t h at He will send us f o ur times as many this year? The written weekly reports handed in by the students show t h at they are p u t t i ng into practice the instructions received in the class-room; not merely listening to lectures on how to bring men to Christ, but going out and bringing them. The studies in what t he Bible teaches concerning God have given t he stu- dents an enlarged conception of His greatness, glory and love. Many have testified of coming into an experience of personal relationship with Him which they had never before known. Lives are being t r a n s f o rme d. The weekly report hour is revealing ma ny touching incidents in connection with the practical work of the stu- dents. Their preaching, singing and personal work are all being used by God in saving men and women from sin. The class-room work for this tefrm includes studies in Doctrine, Personal Wo r k, the Gospel of Matthew, the P r e p a r a t i on and Delivery of Bible Readings and Gospel Addresses. F o r- eign Missions, t he Pentateuch, a nd in Gospel Music. Dr. Torrey left on October 29th to conduct an evangelistic campaign in Pittsburg, Pa. We expect him to re- t u rn with an encouraging report con- cerning t he power of our Lord to save all who come to Him. During Dr. Torrey's absence we shall have with us the Rev. W. C. Sherman, of Sacramento, who will give the stu- dents a series of Bible Readings on various topics b e am i ng on life and service. His opening address on Per- sonal Wo rk was as thrilling as any t he writer ever heard on t h at subject. The regular studies of t he term, with but two exceptions, will be carried on dur- ing Dr. Torrey's absence, Mr. Sher- ma n 's addresses being extra.
