Hevac Limited supplied air-source heat pumps and gas-fired boilers, assisting M&E consultant JV Tierney & Co with their design and specification, for the schools. Clivet air-cooled reversible heat pumps were selected for both schools, with the Large Evo 65.4 (capacity 115-233kW) specified for Coláiste Pobail Fóla and Sheen Evo 22.2 (capacity 24.1-128kW) for Gaelscoil Lir. De Dietrich Evodens Pro wall-hung gas condensing boilers were supplied as a back-up heating source to be used as required, with two 90kW models installed in Coláiste Pobail Fóla and two 45kW units in Gaelscoil Lir. Anthony Harte, Specification Sales Manager, says, “Part of the design was to balance the use of air-to-water heat pumps and gas-fired heating, depending
on the outside ambient temperature, to ensure we maximised efficiency. Using the Clivet selection tool to review actual COPs across a range of different conditions helped with the design criteria. “Being able to supply all the components for the heating system from capital plant to buffers, pipe and gas detection made commissioning straightforward as we were responsible for all the equipment.
