as soon as they were released, went right back to their group and had another meeting. QUESTION: Did you ever attend one of these meet- ings? ANSWER: Oh, yes, thank God, I was in a serv ice almost every day. QUESTION: During the time you were in Russia how often did you see a copy of the Bible? ANSWER: I can tell you a very wonderful experience that happened in the camp. You see when I was taken to the Russian prison camp, I had no knowledge of the Russian language. It wasn’t long until I could speak Russian fairly well. I was hoping and praying for the opportunity of seeing a Russian Bible. There were Bibles smuggled into the camp, but no mat ter what language they were in they were soon confiscated and burned. One day a Russian Bible was confis cated in our camp and I wanted very much to have it. I asked one of the older fellows, who was doing janitor work, if he could possibly rescue that Bible for me. He promised that he would try to get it for me. Finally, he came back to me and said, “John ny, I’m sorry that I can’t get hold of that Bible for you.” I asked, “Why, is it burned already.” He replied, “ Oh, no, it isn’t burned, far from it. In fact, there are four or five Bibles there. Every night when the barracks are closed, the guards themselves want to read them to see what is in the Book that will make prisoners brave the dungeon for the privilege of reading it.” I said, “ Praise the Lord, they need the Bible more than I do.” The Seed is being planted, and, as in this case, because of the tremendous persecution. QUESTION: Do you feel that there is political un rest in Russia today? ANSWER: Yes, definitely! I personally believe that there are more Anti-Communists behind the Iron Curtain then there are on this side of it. There people have experienced what Communism means and they are looking to the outside world to help them break their bonds of slavery. However, to see us “ holding hands” with the Com munists is very discouraging to them. QUESTION: When did you finally get into the United States: ANSWER: On January 17, 1955, I landed at Idlewild Airport in New York. My family was there, my friends were there, but most of all, FREEDOM was there! END.
