riage with great deliberation. Make sure that you have given your heart to the one of God’s choice for you. This should be sincere prayer. Some young people pray with their minds al ready made up. This is not prayer. When you pray, seek God’s counsel, and when you have it obey it. Falling in Love Intelligently Involves . Obedience to the Word of God Abraham was insistent that no wife should be taken for his son Isaac from any people other than the people of God (24:3,4). This is a basic rule empha sized throughout Scripture (Deut. 7:1-6; 2 Cor. 6:14-18). The Bible tells us that a believer is not to marry an unbeliever. How much sorrow and tragedy has come into many lives because this law of God has been violated! Better to go through life alone than to go through it married to the wrong person!

Marriages today are not arranged exactly like those of the ancient Oriental times. But the underlying principles in the marriage of Isaac to Rebekah are permanent and should be considered by every young person as he contemplates marriage and the building of a home. Falling in Love Intelligently Involves A Full Surrender to the Will of God Both Abraham, Isaac and the servant wanted the will of God done in connec tion with a bride for Isaac. They would not run beyond the will of God. There would be no coercion, but a patient waiting for God’s mind in the matter (24:8). It is just here that many young peo ple make a mistake, and a very serious one. They do not take God’s will into consideration. It is exceedingly dan gerous to make up one’s own mind on this or any decision without fifst con sulting the mind of God in the matter. Falling in Love Intelligently Involves Prayer Prayer is the most important activity of the believer’s life. Without prayer nothing can go right, and especially the matter of the selection of a life partner. This should he earnest prayer. What could be of more importance than the choice of the one who is to share your life? The choice of a mate will determine your future happiness and your future usefulness. You dare not make your se lection apart from much earnest prayer. This should be patient prayer. Many a young man and young woman have lived to regret hasty action in the mat ter of marriage. Wait for God’s leading. Be sure that He will direct you. Remem ber that in God’s sight the marriage re lationship is permanent. Enter into mar- M A Y , 1 9 5 2

In every matter involving the life of the Christian the only rule and only authority is the Word of God. There is no matter of importance to Christian life and truth that is not governed by the Word of God. This is true of the home. The teachings of Scripture need to be emphasized to young people in this day of the disintegrating home. Records tell us that three out of every six mar riages in the United States go “ on the rocks.” The reason for this is because
