Bursary Appeal 2022

Increasing support to talented Alleynians Each year all of Dulwich College’s funds are committed to delivering its principal aims, and bursaries are a key part of this mission. Bursaries are funded through a combination of the generosity of benefactors to the College’s Bursary Appeal Fund and our own financial resources, including distributions from the Dulwich Estate and income generated through our educational partnership with Dulwich College International. Thanks to generous gifts from our community, our endowed Bursary Appeal Fund has grown consistently since its inception in 1990, meaning that we have been able to support increasing numbers of boys each year. The majority of these bursaries are transformational awards of more than 75% of fees, given to talented pupils who simply could not otherwise come to Dulwich.

Spending on bursaries has more than doubled since 2013. Currently, 38.6% of boys in the senior school are in receipt of some form of financial support through means- tested bursaries and scholarships. The majority of bursary recipients hold awards of more than 75%.

“When Dulwich College offered me a bursary, it meant the world to me.” After Dulwich, Ennan Mwendwa OA (2000-11) read Medicine at the University of Bristol and was just starting his medical rotations when the pandemic began. Ennan has now completed rotations in Oncology, Geriatrics, Cardiology and Intensive Care. He hopes to become a Consultant Geriatrician in the future. It is thanks to philanthropic support for bursaries that Ennan could attend the College and go on to make a tremendous difference to his community as a doctor.
