served, what responsibility do you think a member of your profession has to be involved in the community? Jordan: The long-standing image of HR professionals has been as the hiring and firing personnel but, ours is so much more. We serve in the community as Career Awareness professionals, we serve as advocates of Health Awareness and its many issues, while also serving as stewards of good business practices.
Journal: What motto do you live by?
Jordan: My motto is simple: “If you work hard, you can play even harder.”
Journal: What do you like most about your job? Jordan : I like most the opportunity to help people resolve their issues. Journal: How has Kappa Alpha Psi ® played a role in your professional or educational career?
Jordan: Early on in Kappa, I took on roles of responsi- bility. I was fortunate enough to serve as a Polemarch as an undergraduate and had wonderful mentors along the way. During that time, I was able to practice and hone my leadership skills, my organizational skills, my time management skills, my oratorical skills and many others that have served me as extremely useful in my profes- sional career. Jordan: My role is to oversee all aspects of my Prov- ince. Leading by example is where it all begins for me but, also knowing the skill set of those brothers in the Province and how they can contribute to its overall suc- cess. Also working to get brothers to buy into whatever philosophy that I foresee as a successful one and is in the best interest of the Fraternity as well as making sure that the voices of the General membership are heard loud and clear is important. At the end of the day, the success of my Province is dependent upon the member- ship of the Province and as the Province Polemarch, I am only as good as My Brothers. Journal: How has Kappa’s Six-Point Plan played a role in your Province activities? Journal: How do you administer the role as Province Polemarch?
Journal: What is your profession?
Jordan: Director of Human Resources.
Journal: What were you involved in campus service, athletics or community wise, while in college? Jordan: Intramural Athletics, Black Student Union, NPHC. Journal: How do you use your professional skills to benefit the community? Jordan: I am involved in local Job Fairs, Resume Writ- ing and Interviewing Seminars, as well as Human Re- source Roundtables that allow me to share information, educate and engage members of the community. Journal: Are you involved in trade organizations related to your profession? /Do you hold any offices? Jordan : I am involved in SHRM-Society for Human Resource Management and the Local Chamber of Commerce, where I serve as a member of the Executive Board.
