The Moonshot: What Comes Next

The Moonshot is a long-term commitment. The verticals that guided AfriLabs in 2025 will guide it in 2026, 2027, and beyond, each year telling a different story within the same framework, each year advancing the arc. As the verticals mature, AfriLabs will deepen its work to track and demonstrate its contribution to that shift, starting with the evidence base UNDP timbuktoo, WISE AI, and EMERGE are building in 2026.

A Leadership Transition Rooted in Legacy

AfriLabs begins 2026 at a defining moment - anchored in institutional maturity, credibility, and scale. Under Anna Ekeledo’s decade of leadership, the organisation evolved from a network of fewer than 50 hubs to over 500 across 53 African countries. Her tenure strengthened governance, professionalised operations, shaped continental innovation policy, and positioned AfriLabs as a trusted interlocutor across the ecosystem. Anna concludes her tenure as Executive Director within the first half of 2026. The transition is designed to ensure stability,
