ful messages issued from the mouth of a loathsome prison. From John Bunyan and Bedford Jail we have Pilgrim’s Progress. . . . Tribulation is a school. The God of all comfort is the Teacher. Equipment for service is the end sought in this school. What kind of service? Nothing less than a ministry of com fort to a waiting, weary world of tried and tested men and women. The match less Teacher gives His pupil comfort in his tribulation, and says, in effect, “Now you go out and do it that way.’’ —Willard Fuller. Laborers for Christ, lift up your heads. Be not dismayed or disheart ened; God is for us—who can be against us? The mountain is full of horses and chariots of fire, and we must not trust the carnal vision to which spiritual forces áre invisible and unreal. The only way'to. do any work for the un seen God is to work as well as walk by faith. . . . Behind all work for God stands God Himself, its inspiration and its assurance, its warrant and its re ward.—A. T. Pierson. TWELFTH DAY God’s Wondrous Ways “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!” (Rom. 11:33). When we read the history of God’s people in the, 'Scriptures with a dis cerning eye, w see that the ways ot God, though often mysterious, are wise and good. Judgments are often bless ings in disguise. Disappointments are His appointments. The greatest crime in history (the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ) became the source of choicest blessing. —E. F. J. Van Halsema. THIRTEENTH DAY A Trust “Go into the village . . . and straight way ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. And if any one say aught unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them” (Matt. 21:2, 3. R. V.). I One eminent French philosopher de clared, in a sentence which has since become proverbial, that all property is theft . . . But we venture to suggest an improvement upon that statement. We would say not that all property is theft, but that all property is a trust . . . We hold our property on a lease from divine love, and when the lease expires, the property is no longer ours ELEVENTH DAY God Our Strength “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31).

• life because thou const trace human links between them. —George Matheson. SEVENTH DAY - The Purifying Word “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you” (John 15:3). Christ cleanses His church through the Word; as in a laver of water. De pend on it, there is no better method of a young man’s cleansing his way than by taking heed thereto according to God’s Word. We read the Bible for purposes of a truer knowledge of God and His ways, and for spiritual quick ening; but let us use it more frequently as the bath of the spirit. Let us bathe in it. Let us revel in it as the grimy Children of thè slums in the laughing wavelets of river and sea. —F . B. Meyer. EIGHTH DAY A Stumblingblock “Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me,, and stand, and call on the name of the Lord his God, and strike his hand over the place and recover the leper. . . . So he turned and Went away in a rage” (2 Ki. 5:11, 12). Naaman expected there would be some kind of ceremony connected with his healing,' for he was a great man. But one of his servants said: “My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather than, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?” That was all he had to do— and he went and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, and behold, “his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.’’ How many people stumble at the very sim plicity of the gospel!—T. T. Shields. NINTH DAY True Blessedness “Blessed are they that keep his tes timonies, and that seek him with the whole heart” (Psa. 119:2). Oh, make but trial of His love; Experience will decide How blest are they, and they alone, Who in His truth confide. Fear Him, ye saints, and you will then Have nothing else to fear; Make but His service your delight, Your wants shall be His care. —Selected. TENTH DAY Tribulation’s School “Who comforteth us in all our tribu lation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble” (2 Cor. 1:4). We are always profiting by others’ tribulations. Sooae of Jeremiah’s soul-
