. . . We are but stewards of the mani fold grace of God.—Life of Faith.

Both my place and all my service, As shall bring most praise to Thee; Use me for whatever purpose Will promote Thy glory best; Let me be a ready channel Through which others may be blessed. —Selected. “The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:7, R. V.). When we talk of peace We think of it as quietness, stillness, and stagna tion. We say of a corpse, “How peace ful!” but that is not what Paul means. In his use of the word it means har mony, activity, movement; like a mighty engine in an Atlantic liner where there is purpose and power without friction; like a choir and orchestra where every one is in tune, and good music is the outcome. This blessing of peace means the absence of sin and the presence of harmony, because the soul is in fellow ship with God.—J. A. Broadbelt. “After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, say ing, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward” (Gen. 15:1). Abram’s faith in the promises of God was a confidence in the promising God. The faith which attached itself to the promises was a trust in the One making the promises. Abram not only believed the Word of the Lord; he also believed in Jehovah. His assurance of the pro mises was based on his confidence in the Maker of the promises, the ever lasting God. God was the great trea sure Of Abram’s life. —William C. Robinson. “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known” (1 Cor. 13:12). Here, how sweet to know Thee, Veiled, Thy glory see, But how great the rapture Of eternity, \Vhen, with heavenly vision, Gift of matchless grace, Crowned and throned in glory We shall see Thy face! —E. Margaret Clarkson. TWENTY-FIRST DAY Pour Out “And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil. FOURTEENTH DAY Still Near

"These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works” (Rev. 3:14, 15). The One who all through history has been drawing near to men in their need, is seen moving among the seven golden candlesticks, visiting all the churches, and showing how near to them He is by the intimacy of His knowledge, and the intensity of His de sire for them and for their faithfulness. And in the last one, the church of Laodicea, although He is pictured as standing outside the door and knock ing—He has not altogether gone away; though outside—He is still near. —H. J. Barker. FIFTEENTH DAY Self-Discipline “Giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; and to knowledge, temperance [self- control}” (2 Pet. 1: 5, 6). How many people there are who are slaves to their sinning: often in secret, and with a fa ir. exterior, and with all the words of God’s salvation on their Ups and in their profession, but of the delivering power of God in their lives they know nothing! They have never taken heed to add to their faith self- discipline . . . Said the Apostle Paul: “I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection.” . . . Until I have learned that, I am going to knock and knock again, until I have added to my faith self-control.—M. Goodman. “Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me . . . for when I am weak, then am I strong” (2 Cor. 12:9, 10). When God wants to move a mountain He does not take a bar of iron, but a little worm. The fact is, we have got too much strength. We are not weak enough. It is not our strength that we want. One drop of God’s strength is worth' more than all the world.—D. L. Moody. All God’s giants have been weak men who did great things for God be cause they reckoned on God’s being with them.—J. Hudson Taylor. SIXTEENTH DAY Blessed Weakness

SEVENTEENTH DAY In Thy Hands
