KAPPA NEWS: GUY L. GRANT AWARDEE—AARON D. DIXON

B rother Dixon is a Spring 2014 initiate of the Gamma Phi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi ® on the campus of Alabama A&M University where he graduated in fall 2016 with a degree in Biology, maintaining a 3.16 GPA. He is the past Junior Province Vice Polemarch of the Southern Province. While at Ala- bama A&M University, Brother Dixon earned several honors and awards; Dean’s List for the years of 2013 and 2015, the Silver Presidential Medallion in 2014 in recognition of maintaining a 3.5-3.7 GPA, as well as President of the Stu- dent Body which requires serving on the University’s Board of Trustees. Since his initiation, Brother Dixon has truly lived by our fundamental purpose of achievement and our motto, Train- ing for Leadership since 1911. While in high school he participated in organizations such as student government, National Honors Society, the Woodland High heritage Panel and the Art Club. As a college freshman, he became one of the first members of the P.O.W.E.R. Mentoring Program reaching out to students who attended the Seminole and Sparkman Holmes Boys and Girls Clubs. Brother Dixon has worked as a student assistant to the Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development. He has been fundamental in creating events during Black

History Month, Thanksgiving and Christmas, Welcome Back to School Weeks and student orientations. His most accomplished event to date was the launching of the Black Male Summit. The vision of the Black Male Summit was to engage the young men of Alabama A&M University and the surrounding community in an interactive, relatable, and meaningful manner that will positively impact their lives. The week is comprised of workshops on financial literacy, career development, motivational and personal branding speaking, dress and table etiquette, concluding with praise and worship. The summit also provided giveaways such as suits, shoes, ties, shirts and gift cards with the intent to nurture the “total” man. Most recently, he worked closely with the Vice President of Student Affairs to create an undergraduate leadership initiative named “The Leadership Catalyst Institute.” It is evident that Brother Dixon's young life epitomizes achievement and that he sees obstacles as opportunities to achieve in spite of not because of. We are thankful to Avril Dixon and Patrick Hatcher, Aaron’s parents, for God’s most precious gift to you has been a blessing to the Noble Clan of Kappa Alpha Psi ® . Let it be known that our brother exhibits the five objectives of Kappa Alpha Psi ® and that his diamond embodies the characteristics of Founder Grant. He is a stu- dent of achievement, a leader among men, and a vanguard of
