KAPPA NEWS: GUY L. GRANT AWARDEE—AARON D. DIXON

I would like to thank God for allowing me the opportu- nity to be here with you all tonight. I want to thank my mom and dad for consistently pushing me through this journey we call life. It is a privilege to stand before you to receive this distin- guished award of achievement. I would be remised if I did not mention that Kappa Alpha Psi ® was established on the shoulders of undergraduate men with a vision of building the Black community and influencing Black men to achieve in which ever endeavor the future brings upon them. This award serves as a reminder of the accomplishments we have achieved and the amount of work that we have yet to complete, some of which will never be completed. As we set out to impact communities around the world, we must remember Proverbs 3:5 to “trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Thank you to the 33rd Grand Board, the nomination com- mittee, the Southern Province, and the Huntsville Alumni Chapter for providing me with endless support. Thank you to the Alabama A&M University Chapter, the Gamma Phi of Kappa Alpha Psi and advisor, Eugene Tasie, for leading and

guiding me throughout my collegiate career. Finally, thank you to Brothers Bertram Orum and John Burrell for being persistent models of what it means to be a Kappa man. I receive this award in memory of Brother Waylon Sims, a man whom I credit with assisting me in “finding me”. I will be attending the University of Tennessee, Knoxville this fall to earn a master’s degree in College Student Personnel. I hope to one day become a high-level student affairs adminis- trator, giving back to college students what these Kappa men have given to me.

Brothers, let’s continue to Rebirth, Reclaim, and Recommit by Leaving no Brother Behind.
