Commonwealth, warmly congratulate the Commonwealth Telecommunications I Organisation as it marks its 125th anniversary. This is a milestone of real significance – not only for the CTO, but for the Commonwealth as a whole.

Few institutions can trace their story so powerfully through the evolution of our modern world: from the first submarine telegraph cables and wireless transmissions, through the building of national communications systems after independence, to the age of broadband, mobile technology, cybersecurity, digital transformation and artificial intelligence. The CTO’s history is, in many ways, a history of connection itself. Its origins in the Pacific Cable Board of 1901 remind us that communications have always been more than technology. They have been lifelines of diplomacy, trade, governance, learning and human understanding. Across generations, the CTO has helped the Commonwealth navigate each new communications era with cooperation, expertise and shared purpose. Today, we need to transform that connection to realise Commonwealth resilience building and shared prosperity. That is why this celebratory series is so timely and so important. Each volume offers more than a record of institutional achievement. Together, they tell a story of innovation in service of people; of technical progress shaped by partnership; and of a Commonwealth institution adapting with courage and relevance to the changing needs of its members.
