Message from the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Hon. Shirley Botchwey.
From signals to sentience, this journey speaks to the extraordinary distance travelled – and to the even greater possibilities ahead. Today, digital connectivity is central to economic opportunity, education, health, public services, democratic participation and resilience. It is also central to equity. For small states, developing countries, young entrepreneurs, women-led businesses and remote communities, access to trusted, affordable and inclusive digital infrastructure can determine whether talent is unlocked or left behind. The CTO’s work is therefore more important than ever. At a time of rapid technological change, when artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data governance and digital inclusion are reshaping the global landscape, the Commonwealth needs institutions that can build trust, share knowledge, strengthen capacity and ensure that no country is excluded from the benefits of innovation. I commend the CTO for 125 years of service, leadership and collaboration. I also commend this publication series as an important reminder that the Commonwealth’s greatest strength lies in the talents, partnerships and practical cooperation of its people and institutions. As Secretary-General, I look forward to working with the CTO and all our partners to ensure that technology becomes a force for inclusion, prosperity and resilience across our Commonwealth.
Congratulations on this remarkable anniversary.
