Message from the Chairperson
125 years ago, a bold vision to connect nations across oceans laid the foundation for one of the world's oldest intergovernmental communications organisations. Today, as the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation celebrates this remarkable milestone, we honour not only its history, but its enduring relevance in an increasingly digital world.
Ta ssarajen Pillay Chedumbrum Chairman, Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation
Mauritius is deeply honoured to assume the Chairmanship of the CTO during this landmark anniversary. We do so with a profound appreciation of the organisation's legacy and an equally strong commitment to its future. As Chair, Mauritius will work with all member countries to promote digital inclusion, strengthen resilience, encourage innovation and deepen cooperation across the Commonwealth. Our shared success will not be measured solely by technological advancement, but by the opportunities we create for our people and the lives we improve through connectivity. This publication tells the remarkable story of an organisation that has connected generations of Commonwealth citizens for over a century. It is a story of vision, collaboration and resilience—and a reminder that our greatest achievements have always been realised when we work together. As we celebrate 125 years of service, let us also embrace the responsibility of shaping the next chapter of the Commonwealth's digital future. Throughout its 125-year journey, the CTO has remained a trusted platform for cooperation, bringing together governments, regulators, industry, academia and development partners to advance communications and digital development across the Commonwealth. From the historic Pacific Cable and the All-Red Route to today's conversations on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, satellite connectivity and digital transformation, the organisation has continually evolved to meet the needs of its members.
