Marie-France Caron, 45-years old, of Pierrefonds, Québec, was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while impaired, with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus. She received a 90-day driver’s license suspension and her vehicle was also impounded for seven days. She is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on June 26. Test (SFST). As a result of the investigation, 18-year- old Dominik Bourgeois, of Rockland, was ar- rested and charged with operating a vehicle while impaired (blood drug concentration), having care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available, person under 19 years - possess cannabis and person under 19 years (consume cannabis). He received a 90-day driver’s license suspension and the vehicle was also impounded for seven days. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on June 26. On June 7, at about midnight, officers responded to a traffic complaint on Bou- vier Road, in Clarence-Rockland. During the

On May 28, at about 8:15 p.m., an officer responded to a theft incident on Victoria Street in Rockland. His investigation revealed that a man had numerous stolen items in his possession. A 49-year-old Clarence-Rockland man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle, posses- sion of a credit card, two counts of failing to comply with probation order and possessing property obtained by crime under $5,000 (in Canada). The federal government will provide $15 million to aid Forest Ontario’s goal of plan- ting 50 million trees by 2020, now that the Ontario government has cancelled funding for the project in this year’s budget. The SNC partners each spring with Forest Ontario to provide seedlings, at reduced cost, to local property owners for treeplan- ting projects. Un incendie, survenu le 8 juin dernier vers 16 h 15, a complètement rasé une maison située sur le chemin Boudreau, sur la frontière des municipalités de Clarence-Rockland et Alfred-Plantagenet. « Nous ne connaissons pas la cause de l’incendie, a déclaré le chef pompier adjoint de Clarence-Rockland, Mario Villeneuve. Le commissaire des incendies de l’Ontario fait maintenant enquête. » Pas moins de 25 pompiers de Clarence-Rockland se sont déplacés sur les lieux. « Nous avons aussi eu de l’aide des services des incendies avoisinants, a rapporté M. Les restrictions concernant la navigation sur la rivière des Outaouais ont été levées le 4 juin dernier. C’est le ministre des Transports du Canada, Marc Garneau, qui en a fait l’annonce. Lesdites restrictions avaient été mises en place afin de protéger les murs de sacs de sable des vagues que pouvaient causer les navires. Elles avaient déjà été levées pour la plupart de la région la semaine dernière. La région de Wendover jusqu’à Hawkesbury restait toutefois non-navigable. M. Garneau a toutefois tenu à rappeler aux navigateurs de ralentir près du rivage et de respecter les propriétaires qui pourraient encore avoir des sacs de sable en place. —archives

3 ways to get to know your new neighbourhood
Settling somewhere new can be challenging. Here are three ways to get better acquainted with your new neighbourhood. 1. The practical approach Take time to locate the essentials like grocery stores, medical clinics, drugstores and garages. You should also investigate your town’s website. It likely contains information about municipal bylaws, garbage pick-up days and upcoming special events. Many municipalities offer notification services for things like boil water advisories and roadwork updates. It’s a good idea to sign up for these if possible. Also, keep in mind that local newspapers, like the one you’re reading right now, are full of useful information. 2. The recreational approach A great way to get to know your neighbourhood is to look for places where you can pursue your hobbies.
Creative types can seek out arts and craft stores or classes offered by galleries and local artisans. Voracious readers should find out where the nearest library is. Many of them offer activities like book clubs, which are a great way to meet people who share your passion. If you’re a fitness nut, make a list of gyms, pools and local sports leagues. 3. The community approach Get involved in your community by joining your neighbourhood association, your home owner’s association or your condo association. If you’re a parent with school-age kids, also consider volunteering at your children’s school. These are great ways to actively participate in making your new neighbourhood a better place to live and you’ll meet many new people to boot. In addition to the three approaches mentioned, be sure to talk to your new neighbours. One of the best ways to learn about what’s in your area is by word of mouth.

Trente-neuf élèves de l’École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Trinité de Rockland, âgés de 8 à 12 ans et passionnés de l’écriture, ont raison d’être fiers. « Ils (les élèves) sont membres du club d’écriture de l’école. Ils écrivent dans leurs temps libres et partagent leurs écrits sur l’heure du diner, a souligné Mylaine Demers, elle-même auteure, ainsi que l’une des instigatrices et éditrices de l’œuvre avec Mélissa Gervais. Le 5 juin dernier, les élèves ont lancé un recueil de textes intitulé Nos vies en mots , à la bibliothèque de l’école Sainte-Trinité, devant près de 150 individus. Le club d’écriture, qui a vu le jour il y a neuf ans, en est à sa quatrième publication. Un premier tome intitulé Au fil des saisons a paru en 2013, le deuxième sous le même titre en 2015 et cette trilogie s’est conclue en 2017. Lors de chaque publication, environ 350 livres ont été imprimés. Cette année, les éditrices, interpellées par

The annual Clarence Creek demolition derby took place on June 8, under a sweltering sun and a vicious horde of mosquitos. Hundreds of action lovers filled the many seats available for the event. Yells of encouragements were heard whenever the drivers entered the small, walled-off area where they then proceeded to ram their already well-dented vehicles into each other. The Festival de la bine de Plantagenet launched its official program for this year’s festival on June 4. The event will take place from September 13 to 15, at l’École secondaire catholique de Plantagenet. On Friday night, the musical group Kaïn and local country singer Damien Maze will animate the scene. A bean and macaroni dinner will be available to the audience before the show. The festival will welcome, on Saturday night, humorist Michel Barrette as well as Christine Morency and a local humorist. Sunday will see the famous bean contest: My grandmother’s beans are the best! New this year, visitors will be able to enjoy an amusement park. A variety of activities for children will take place all weekend. — archive

Le féminisme était à l’honneur lors d’une discussion autour de tables rondes à laquelle participaient une dizaine d’étu- diantes de la région. « C’est la première fois qu’on organise un tel évènement, a expliqué Émilie Aubut, enseignante de l’École secondaire catho- lique l’Escale et instigatrice du projet, en partenariat avec la Bibliothèque publique de Clarence-Rockland. La liste des organisations internationales mesure les écarts observés entre les hommes et les femmes sur le plan écono- mique, éducatif, politique ou en matière de santé dans plus de 100 pays du monde.
