BIG turnout for Russell OP open house
and revise it as needed. Most forums on changes to the OP, Tremblay noted, average about a dozen visitors. The large turnout for the April 20 event, she noted, indicates great interest in the community on some of the changes proposed for the OP. Most of the questions planning staff and consultants fielded concerned some of the special use provisions in the zoning bylaw covered under the OP, such as the addition of “garden suites” to the secondary residence definition for residential zoning, maximum andminimumnumber of parking spaces re- quired for particular types of developments, and proposals for increases in some of the property description allowances for the 417 Industrial Park. Tremblay noted that the municipality has about 30 acres of available land left in the Industrial Park. The township may be looking in the future at acquiring adjacent properties to the park, to expand it and at- tract more light industrial and other suitable commercial ventures there, as part of the strategic plan to broaden Russell Township’s economic development profile. But that is separate from the current OP review. Township planning staff will present a report on the open house along with a sum- mary of all the changes proposed to the OP, at a special meeting with council onMay 15. Tremblay noted that residents who were unable to attend the April 20 open house can still provide feedback on the OP before the May 15 report session. “We’re still open for comments and suggestions,” she said. “It’s important for residents to get involved at this stage of the review.” The OP review report is available to view, either at the township office onNotre-Dame Street in Embrun or online at www.russell. ca/businesses/services_for_business/build- ing_and_planning under Official Plan.
On Friday April 21, 2017, just aftermidnight, the Ontario Provincial Police received a mischief complaint at the Embrun High School. The school had been struck by what appeared to be paintballs, to several windows and the building itself. Unrolled toilet paper rolls were littering the trees and the front of the high school and two bags of live crickets were released within the school. Two suspects were observed on video surveillance wearing dark hoodies andmasks and throwing what appeared to be paintballs at the school. A small dark colored vehicle was seen leaving the rear parking lot just after midnight. Assistance is being sought from the public to help identifying the suspects and/or the vehicle. —submitted photo

Planning Director Dominique Tremblay and her staff are surprised and very happy with the number of visitors for their second open house session on the Official Plan revisions for Russell Township. “We’re really excited about the turnout,” Tremblay said during a phone interview April 21. More than four dozen people passed through the doors of council chamber at the township office last Thursday evening, to view the information placards and docu- ments on proposed changes to the Offi- cial Plan (OP), and talk to either planning department staff or representatives from MMMGroup, the consultant agency which is working on the revisions. The township is required by provincial regulation to review its OP every five years,
