What has been your favorite experience while being in the MS-AT program? My favorite part of the MS-AT program has been helping the athletes with their injury and helping them get back to playing their sport that they love. What advice would you give someone that’s looking to join our MS-AT program? Always be willing to ask questions. You don’t need to feel afraid of asking questions. We will never know everything as ATs, and we are always looking for ways to make our arsenal bigger and better.
EXPERIENCES UWSP Football, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School, UWSP Baseball
Where do you want to work in the future? I would like to work with an NFL team or in the college setting.
What one interesting fact you’ve learned while in class? Every athlete is different and functions differently. When making rehabs for athletes, you could have two athletes with the same injury but might not be able to perform the same exercises. It is important to also understand sport specific movements of the athlete and make part of that rehab more towards the athlete’s respective sport.

What has been your favorite experience while being in the MS-AT program? My favorite experience in the MS-AT program has been seeing myself–as well as my classmates–learn and grow as students. When I first entered the program, I felt clueless. Over time, I have felt myself gaining more and more confidence every single day in my skills and knowledge. That feeling has been reinforced by my clinical preceptors. It has been one of the greatest feelings I have ever experienced. What advice would you give someone that’s looking to join our MS-AT program? My advice is always be ready to learn. The knowledge and skills are given to us. It then becomes the responsibility of the student to perfect those skills. You can never practice a skill too much. You can never review too much. If something is not clicking, don’t be afraid to ask a classmate, professor, preceptor, etc. Learning can be done anywhere. Not just in the classroom.
Where do you want to work in the future? I would like to live and work in Wisconsin and work in the D3 level or at a high school.
What one interesting fact you’ve learned while in class? In class, I learned the signs and symptoms of a disorder called thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) which causes nerves or blood vessels to become compressed. During one of my clinical rotations, I worked with an athlete who was experiencing these signs and symptoms. Turns out, they had thoracic outlet syndrome.

Never be afraid to pick the minds of others whether that be athletic trainers, professors or fellow students as this is one of the best ways to learn.
