Traditional methods of manually categorising and tagging records can be time- consuming and prone to human errors. However, AI- powered algorithms can swiftly analyse and categorise large volumes of records based on patterns and content, ensuring efficient and accurate cataloguing. This not only saves time but also enhances the organisation and accessibility of archival materials.

Furthermore, the automation of routine tasks is a crucial advantage AI brings to the archival profession. Mundane tasks such as data entry, formatting, and basic analysis can be automated, allowing archivists to focus on higher-value activities like interpretation and curation. AI-driven solutions also excel in language translation and sentiment analysis. This capability is invaluable when dealing with records in various languages or deciphering complex historical contexts. What topics did you enjoy hearing more about at the ICA Congress Abu Dhabi? We heard insights into several innovative trends in the realm of digital preservation and electronic archiving. The objectives of ICA Congress Abu Dhabi were in line with the UAE’s sustainability vision, emphasising the strides made in blockchain technology’s integration into digital preservation. Blockchain holds the potential to revolutionise the authentication process for archived materials, as it offers

a tamper-proof mechanism for establishing provenance and authenticity. Moreover, its capability to identify vulnerable digital assets and apply preservation strategies could significantly extend the lifespan of archives. We were particularly intrigued by the progress surrounding distributed archiving models and decentralised storage systems. These developments have the potential to enhance redundancy and resilience in safeguarding digital heritage. Embracing these models could ensure that digital artifacts are preserved even in the face of technical failures or disruptions. Additionally, we were enthusiastic about the advancements in collaborative platforms and open-source preservation tools. These innovations have the power to democratise the archiving process, making it more inclusive and engaging for a wider
