The Human Side of Law in an AI World Why Compassion Still Wins in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
Recently, I have been thinking about what it really means to practice law in a time when technology is accelerating faster than ever. Artificial intelligence is everywhere, in headlines, conversations, and even courtrooms. I understand why people are curious, even hopeful, about what it can do. But when I sit across from a client who’s been injured, overwhelmed, and is trying to piece their life back together, I’m reminded of something that feels more certain than any innovation: This work is, and always will be, deeply human. Most people don’t come to me on their best day. They come in pain, frustrated, sometimes scared, and often unsure of what happens next. In those moments, they need more than legal knowledge. They need someone who will listen carefully, ask the right questions, and help them make sense of a situation that feels anything but clear. That kind of connection (the kind where someone feels seen and supported) can’t be automated. Of course, that doesn’t mean I ignore technology. AI, when used thoughtfully, can be a helpful tool. If I’m reviewing a massive stack of documents, for example, using technology to help summarize information can save time and allow me to focus more energy where it matters most, like strategy, advocacy, and my clients themselves. In that sense, it’s no different than spell check was years ago. It’s a tool. Useful, yes, but only when human judgment guides it.
Where I draw a firm line is in allowing that tool to replace critical thinking or personal connection. I’ve seen the risks firsthand. There have been instances in the legal world where AI-generated information included so-called “phantom cases,” legal precedents that don’t exist. That glitch is a serious issue that can affect real people and real outcomes. Courts are beginning to set new rules and expectations around disclosure, underscoring the importance of approaching this technology with caution and responsibility.
Also, an emotional side to this work often goes unspoken but is impossible to ignore. Helping someone navigate a legal challenge requires guiding them through uncertainty, advocating for them when they feel powerless, and sometimes just being a steady presence when everything else feels unsettled. No technology can replicate empathy, and no system can replace reassurance delivered at the right moment. At our firm, we’ve always believed the little things matter: the follow-ups, the check-ins, the gestures that remind our clients they’re not just a case number. That philosophy doesn’t change just because new tools exist. If anything, it becomes even more important to hold onto it. AI is here, and it’s not going anywhere. So, while I stay informed and use it where it makes sense, I remain mindful of its limitations. Because I also know the heart of what I do isn’t something you can code. It’s built on trust, connection, and a commitment to showing up for people when they need it most. And that’s something I don’t plan on handing over to a machine anytime soon.
For me, the standard is simple. My clients get me, not a chatbot, not an algorithm, not a generated response. If you take the time to reach out and trust me with your story, you deserve a response that reflects that trust. My experience, thought, and care shape every email, every conversation, and every piece of advice. That’s a promise I take seriously.

Real-Life Money Tips You’ll Actually Stick With
Smart Ways to Save Without Sacrificing Your Lifestyle
One of our newsletter readers recently suggested we tackle a topic that affects just about everyone: simple ways to save money on everyday bills. We’re always open to suggestions like this, so if there’s a topic on your mind, don’t hesitate to share. Others are likely wondering the same thing! EXAMINE WHERE YOUR MONEY IS GOING Saving money doesn’t always start with cutting things out. Instead, start by paying attention. When you review your spending, patterns start to emerge. Maybe it’s extra takeout meals, overlapping subscriptions, or bills that have quietly crept up over time. Be Sherlock Holmes, crack out the magnifying glass, and investigate where your money is being drained. Then, you can start thinking about how to fix the leaks! TWEAK THE BILLS YOU CAN’T AVOID. Utilities aren’t going anywhere. But you have more control over them than you might think. Small changes like adjusting your thermostat by a few degrees, unplugging unused electronics, or being mindful about water usage add up over time.
Treasure Over Ties
Make This Father’s Day an Adventure to Remember This Father’s Day, if you really want to wow him, skip the tie and give good ol’ dad a mission instead. A scavenger hunt turns every room into a game and every clue into a fun, bonding opportunity. Watching him search high and low is basically a dad joke in motion, where everyone gets to laugh along until he finds the paternal prize! CURATED CLUES The best part of creating your own Father’s Day scavenger hunt is that you can customize it based on his interests and personality. Think about how long you want the event to last and what kind of prize you want to reveal after he’s figured out every clue. Create clues that will puzzle him enough to keep it challenging, but show off just how well you know him. Each clue he finds around the house should prompt him to find the location of the next one. THEMED TREASURES You can make your hunt special by choosing a theme. You could have every clue lead him to one of his favorite things, like the shirt he always wears, his toolbox, or something hidden in his armchair. The clues themselves can become keepsakes if the kids paint them on rocks to hide, or you make a framed collage of them later. Technology can take your dad’s quest into the future if you utilize QR codes for clues or require him to snap a selfie after each find. Remember, this game is in his honor, so let what makes him unique guide every clue you create. PERFECT PRIZES Like any Father’s Day gift, the big reveal should end in a prize he will treasure. While the last clue could lead to the item at the top of his wish list, you could also gift him a memorable experience. If he loves fishing, his prize could be a family day out at the lake. You could all pitch in to cook him a tasty meal, or lead him to a map where you have circled the hiking trail you will take him on. This year, test out your dad’s puzzle-solving skills and create memories with his own special scavenger hunt. It’s a gift the whole family will treasure long after he’s figured out the final clue.
Internet and cable bills are also worth revisiting. Many providers offer bundle options or lower-tier plans that still meet your needs. And if you’ve had the same plan for years, it might be time to shop around. You could be paying more than you need to without realizing it.
CLEAR OUT QUIET ‘MONEY DRAINS.’ Subscriptions are sneaky. They start small, and then suddenly you’re paying for multiple services you barely use. Taking a few minutes to review and cancel what you don’t need can feel like giving yourself an instant raise. GIVE YOUR MONEY A GAME PLAN. A budget doesn’t have to be rigid. Think of it as a simple road map. Know what’s coming in, what’s going out, and where you want the rest to go. Whether it’s building savings, paying off debt, or just creating a little breathing room, having a plan makes a big difference. SMALL CHANGES LEAD TO REAL RESULTS. You don’t have to overhaul your entire lifestyle to see progress. Plan grocery trips ahead of time, make DIY cleaning products ( you’d be surprised how much you can save ), or cut back in just one area, be it shopping or food delivery. Over time, those small wins add up to meaningful savings and a lot less financial stress.
And just like this topic came from a reader, we’d love to hear from you, too. What should we cover next?

As summer settles into Atlanta, it’s the perfect time to refresh your routine, starting with what’s on your plate. Healthy eating often comes down to small, intentional choices that add up over time. Whether you’re grabbing groceries or dining out, a little awareness can go a long way. SIMPLE HABITS THAT MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE Healthy eating starts with paying attention. Taking a moment to read nutrition labels can help you spot hidden sugars, excess sodium, or saturated fats. It’s also good to be mindful of portion sizes, especially when dining out, where servings are often larger. Cooking at home is another powerful way to stay on track. Even preparing just a few meals at home each week can create a noticeable shift in how you feel. A SMARTER WAY TO GROCERY SHOP If meal planning feels overwhelming, the 5-4-3- 2-1 method offers a refreshingly simple approach. Think of it as a flexible guide: five vegetables, four fruits, three proteins, two sauces or spreads, and
one grain, plus a small treat you genuinely enjoy. It’s structured enough to keep you organized, but relaxed enough to fit your lifestyle. SHOP LOCAL, EAT FRESH One of the best parts of living in Atlanta this time of year is access to incredible farmers markets. The Peachtree Road Farmers Market is a local favorite, offering everything from fresh produce to dairy and meats from local farmers. For a lively weekend

Feeling Busy but Not Productive?
These Brilliant Time Hacks May Help
Time has a way of slipping away. You start the day with a plan and end it wondering where the hours went. The problem usually isn’t laziness; it’s distractions and competing priorities. Fortunately, a few simple, research-backed strategies can help you stay focused, organized, and productive. WORK IN FOCUSED 25-MINUTE STRETCHES. One of the most effective ways to stay productive is by working in short, structured intervals. The popular Pomodoro Technique breaks work into 25-minute sessions, followed by short breaks. This
structure helps prevent mental fatigue and keeps your brain engaged. Short work sprints also make large tasks feel manageable. Instead of stressing about completing an entire project, you simply commit to focusing for the next 25 minutes. After you get started, the momentum carries you forward. USE TIME BLOCKING TO PLAN YOUR DAY. Time blocking is a powerful strategy that involves dividing your day into dedicated segments for specific tasks. Rather than relying on a long to- do list, you assign tasks to actual time slots in your schedule. This approach reduces decision fatigue because you already know what you should be working on at a given time. It also limits multitasking, which can drain mental energy and lower overall productivity. BATCH SIMILAR TASKS TOGETHER. Constantly switching between different types of tasks can slow you down and make it harder to concentrate. Task batching solves this problem by grouping similar activities. For instance, instead of checking emails
throughout the day, you might respond to them during one or two scheduled periods. By completing similar tasks in one session, you reduce distractions and create a smoother workflow PRIORITIZE WHAT MATTERS. Not every task on your list deserves the same attention. Prioritization methods, such as sorting tasks by urgency and importance, help you focus on work that makes an impact. When you concentrate on high-value tasks first, you avoid spending too much time on small or low-priority responsibilities that don’t contribute much to your overall goals. SCHEDULE BREAKS TO RECHARGE. It may seem counterproductive, but taking breaks is essential for maintaining productivity. Short pauses throughout the day help your brain recover and maintain focus over longer periods. Stepping away from your desk, stretching, or taking a quick walk can refresh your mind and prevent burnout. Often, a brief break is exactly what you need to return to your work with better concentration.
