There are three kinds of people that are curious about why BuDhaGirl would have a scientific advisory board and highlight science as an integral pillar of BuDhaGirl: • The ones who ask what’s this got to do with fashion??? • The ones who’s curiosity is piqued and know that there is indeed more to everything we do, think, and choose; affecting our brain and our spirit. • The ones that say: prove it. OKAY...

Today science is validating the principles found in ancient contemplative practices. The Buddha and other teachers, and philosophers, have known and taught others that the human mind is powerful and how we use it and for what we use it defines who we are. The modern branches for the study of the brain are: neurology, psychiatry, neuroscience, and psychology. All these sciences have taken a recent quantum leap in understanding how our brain works. Imaging the brain is now a tool that allows scientists actually see how the brain reacts to stimuli, both positive and negative; natural and induced.

The 20th century generated the greatest growth in scientific knowledge in the entire course of human history, and also witnessed man’s greatest inhumanity to man and our planet. Modern society became more knowledgeable and powerful but it did not grow wiser, kinder, more connected, or compassionate. In this, the 21st century we must change that. The science that once turned its back on centuries of observation and contemplation is now concretely testing why these ancient contemplative practices work. And, more importantly science is now taking a collaborative approach and integrating meditation into prevention and treatment protocols.

Every day mental health is becoming more mainstream. Brain function, neuroplasticity, recovery, and more importantly maintenance are being discussed in public forums; from digital apps to wellness care in hospitals. For some time now we have known much about our hearts, livers, lungs, stomachs, etc...and we do things to keep these organs in good working condition. Yet most of us do nothing for the organ that controls everything: our brain. This is about to change.

BuDhaGirl is not alone in welcoming science as a key asset in modern consumer companies. Science is a value added feature for the consumer who wants to know more.

BuDhaGirl believes you do not need to sit crossed-legged, burn incense, or even have a bubbling fountain in order to begin your awareness ritual (meditation). We believe that step one is about focused intention. Pausing a moment no matter where you are or what time it is to stop, take a deep breath. Then in a just a few moments just be, feel how you actually feel. Take that new awareness and set your intention for the rest of your day. It works. Intentions define outcomes.
