Via Comfort Foam Via Seating proprietary comfort foam is sculpted to provide body balance technology built directly in the cushioning of the seat and back. It is injected into an engineered mold at controlled, differing rates, which creates strategic, multi-density levels within each cushion. This process builds a subtle seat contour that maximizes support exactly where it is needed—where body weight is most concentrated. The outer edges by contrast, are made softer and in a waterfall slope so that the seat does not restrict circulation where the legs extend out over the edge of the seat. Closed-Cell, Cold-Cured Foam Technology Closed-Cell refers to the fact that the foam has a smooth outer skin that is kind to fabric. It does not rasp on the upholstery from the inside. The foam does not absorb moisture. It protects the foam over-time and does not break down. The comfort of Via Seating foam has the same comfort 12 years later. Cold-Cured refers to the consistency in size of the air cells within the foam. The foam is one single, contoured and resilient piece of foam. It is not layered foam. Expertly tested and durable foam Via Seating uses a resistance factor test and measurement of density to assess the durability and quality of its foam. Density/volume weight gives an indication of the foam’s ability to resist weight and not “bottom out”. Good foam must provide resistance in direct proportion to the amount of pressure applied. This unit of measurement does not necessarily translate into hardness but rather the feeling of support you receive when you sit on the foam. Via Seating foam has an average density or volume of 3 pounds per cubic foot (48 kg/m3). Standard flat foam, by comparison, has a single volume weight between 1.9-2.25 pounds per cubic foot (30 to 40 kg/m3). The greater density of Via Seating foam makes it best-suited for ergonomic seating.

Control Mechanisms Our Studio V team comprised of 8+ full-time engineers, utilizes our prototyping lab, latest 3D modeling software with lifesize printer & in-house ISO 17025:2017 Accredited Laboratory Certified lab to craft customer-centric, lasting mechanisms. Working with an industry-leading, multiple patent holding, component manufactuer, we craft Via custom-controls utilizing the latest technology for use in Via products only.
Quick Adjust Advanced Synchro (67C) This proprietary, ergonomic synchro delivers an incredible smooth and comfortable ride while offering a wide variety of adjustments. It allows the sitter to adjust back tension and recline with a 5-position tilt limiter, both easily adjusted within a single rotation of the knobs (ie. no endless or painful cranking). Additional features include seat height, optional seat depth (+SS) and a forward tilt switch (+FT).
Synchronized Knee-Tilt (42C) Unlike a pitched back traditional tilt, this true knee-tilt control positions the chair’s rotation axis forward where the front of the waterfall edge, ergonomic seat stays down. When leaning back, this comfortably allows the sitter’s feet to stay flat on the floor while also opening up their hip-spine angle. The benefits include increased circulation, a reduction in pressure points & more optimal spinal alignment.

Chair Wood Quality in wood is critical to achieve lasting support & longevity. It acts as a foundation for the chair as the controls, foam & arms are all connected to it. To ensure lasting quality backed by our 12-Year Warranty, we source superior wood sourced in the U.S. Unlike the industry standard 3-5 ply, Via Seating uses 7 to 9 ply in our seating.

Gas Lifts A gas lift is the cylinder that connects the base to the control mechanism and powers the chair’s ability to adjust up and down. Via Seating pneumatic gas lifts are made by the same manufacturer that produces shock absorbers for several luxury car brands. For our gas lifts, we require the same quality & functionality used for their car shock absorbers. This is achieved through three key elements built into every Via Seating gas lift: 1. Strongest Steel : thick & of superior quality; 2. Double Seal : to avoid the number one gas lift failure—gas leaking from the chamber—our gas lifts are double sealed; 3. Clean Deal : produced in a “clean room” where imperfections are smoothed out & dust/impurities that could compromise the seal are avoided.
Hardware When Via Seating connects arms & control mechanisms to our chair, we only use superior hardware from a quality & process perspective: Quality : Surpassing the minimally required, off-the-shelf, grade 3 metallurgy, Via chooses to use grade 8 hardware in our seating. This superior material is designed to not fail and we have tested it extensively all the way up past Heavy-Duty 24/7 requirements in our ISO accredited lab. The result is lasting metal connections that don’t have to be tightened by the customer to maintain our warranty. Process: When connecting arms & mechansisms to our seat wood, we do not use easily breakable wood screws. We only use metal-to-metal connections, which are further reinforced by loctite patches. These liquid threadlocker adhesives create a cured & sealed thermoset bond that lasts.

Arms As with Via Seating control mechanisms, our arms are engineered and thoroughly tested by our in- house product development team, Studio V. Our broad range of fixed arms with & without upholstery and execu-task, adjustable arms are proprietary to Via. Additionally, most of our chairs offer a unique modularity that allows almost all arms available to go on any style of executive chair.

Bases Most contract furniture swivel seating bases are made from glass fiber reinforced nylon or cast aluminum. The more glass fiber and the amount of “ribbing”—which is the lattice work underneath the base— determines its strength. Our nylon bases all have an extensive ribbing structure and robust reinforcement. Both the nylon & aluminum bases have all been extensively tested & approved for use in heavy duty and multiple ship 24/7 applications.
Casters Additionally, our casters are all approved for heavy-duty, multiple shift, 24/7 use. They come in a wide array of closed & open design styles. The open design casters in particular have an extra part on the stem that has noise reduction qualities. All designs offer a safety brake feature that is either integrated or optional.

Best Leathers In addition to offering a wide variety of coated textiles & fabrics, Via Seating curated a collection of high quality 5, 6 & 8 grade leathers. These pure, all-natural leathers include unique features such as that the grade 8 are colored with fruit and vegetable dyes. Each hide is digitally scanned & layered to order to maximize the yield of each hide within an order. From a sustainability & pricing standpoint, we’ve virtually eliminated waste. And the luxurious sit it incredible!

Ergo Seat of Privacy
Thomas began with studying leather being used in high end cars. These seats were metal frame in their construction and injection molded with foam for comfort. He also researched ergonomic chairs, finding height adjustable arms, syncro controls and seat depth adjustments were critical to customize support for the multi-tasking executive. He combined the two, adding a proprietary blend of foam with a new, articulating headrest integrated into the metal framework, creating the execu-task category. Via Seating’s execu-task was quickly adopted by commercial real estate tenants, government clients and newly emerging companies in the tech sector. Via Seating was catapulted to success during this time, rapidly becoming recognized as the most innovative, seating specialist deliving chairs when you wanted them on time, every time!
Via Seating is Born Aretha Franklin, The Queen of Soul was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in January of 1987. The first ‘The Simpsons” cartoon short was shown on The Tracey Ullman Show in April of that year. Ronald Reagan asked Mr. Gorbachev to “Tear down this wall!” and right before that in May of 1987, Via Seating opened its doors to the world and changed the commercial furniture industry forever! Via Seating, founded by Thomas Sorenson became the first manufacturing company to manufacture executive chairs in forty-eight (48) hours including with leather & a full array of complex options. The promise of forty-eight-hour manufacturing did not exist until Via Seating rolled it out. Why executive chairs? In 1987, the most coveted space in commercial real estate was the private office. Having a corner office, with a view, and with the opportunity of closing your door whenever you wanted, was the place to be if you were an ambitious professional at that time. The most powerful seat in the building was the executive chair in that private office. The bigger the chair, the more important you were. Executive Seating Evolves Today Today, the executive chair is no longer highly gender biased. Today 31% of CEO positions are held by women, private offices dramatically reduced (pre-covid), a more egalitarian organizational structure has emerged and it is no longer necessary to reward an individual for success by using a space representing power. Millennials and Gen Z alongside wireless technology, have reshaped the office environment of today. According to a study conducted by Pew Research, there are anywhere between 5 million to 11 million Millennials taking on upper management roles over the next decade. In what has been coined as one of the largest leadership transitions in history, many of these Millennials are taking over significant-sized organizations from the Baby Boomers and Gen X’ers who founded them. In doing so, they are changing culture as well as shifting strategy. As a result of this dramatic transition, a refreshing, empathetic approach to leadership is emerging. This leadership style takes an intentional look at how leaders treat employees’ overall wellbeing as they grow within an organization. Therefore, a more collaborative, inclusive, and immediate communication style is prevailing. This means private space is still important, but less in the “highest floor, corner office” form seen in days past. Today, these spaces need to emphasize flexibility & coziness alongside quiet & private. Today, teamwork is the reason that 52% of employees want to return to the office. Some companies are opting for hybrid workplace, an extension of the ‘Open Office’ design where in-person and virtual interactions occur simultaneously. Coworkers mingle—some physically in a ‘connected kitchen’ at the office and others from their kitchens at home. All that being said, employees want to have ‘their own space’. One of the greatest benefits of being remote was that employees got to experience true privacy and control of their workspace. As employees return to the office, 60% of employees prefer a private office with a door and 48% want a dedicated workspace with a comfortable, ergonomic chair. For workplace designers, this creates a need for dynamic spaces with moveable pieces that can create flexible division e.g. screens, paneling and movable walls. But not everyone can have access to a private office as it is just not practical or feasible. What does all of this mean for seating?
For employees, choosing a chair today has a much different set of criteria and solutions to provide. This decision matrix completely redefines the large scale, high back, ergonomic chair previously categorized as execu-task seating. A high back chair needs to provide privacy in an open plan office environment, but maybe also a privacy screen backdrop for virtual conferencing. This chair also needs to be ergonomic, adjustable and work for different body types and workstyles. Does this sound familiar to the origins of the emergence of Via’s ‘Execu-task’ category? Maybe. But the big difference today is “what once was the ‘Ego Seat of Power’ is now the ‘ Ergo Seat of Privacy ’”. Sustainability is also a prime consideration in this selection process. Via Seating’s approach to this is to build a chair with the structural integrity that can stand the test of time. Having metal frame construction with injection molded foam has never been more important in this regard. The robust curves of each collection within the executive seating category not only provide comfort, but also allow for a wide variety of textiles to be used. Some of these textiles in combination with the proprietary foam can provide a quiet zone. Vegan leathers, fabric that comes from eco-friendly resources such as sustainably grown fiber crops or recycled materials are important. How the fabrics are manufactured also determines their level of sustainability. Given that hybrid workspace is now the norm, it is not unrealistic to assume that the chair could conceivably be used by more than one person.
