King's Business - 1955-11

kingdom in miniature. Verse 27 tells us that “there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.” Then “eight days after” (v. 28) we have the transfig uration scene which was the fulfillment of the promise of the preceding verse. The King was present and He was glori fied. Representatives of living and dead saints were there. Many other factors are presented which answer to the future glorious kingdom. But we wish to make a very practical application of the passage of the idea of discipleship. True disciples are rewarded with a vision of the face of Christ. They see Him as the victorious and glorious Lord. They are concerned with none else but Him. Lesson Helps for the Children Following Jesus Luke 9:7-62 M E M O R Y VERSE: " Y e ore my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you " (John 15:14). One day the Saviour said to a man, “Follow Me.” Rather than eagerly leaving all to follow the Lord as Matthew had done, the man said, “Suffer me first to go and bury my father.” Another said, “Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.” The answer of these two men grieved the heart of the Lord Jesus. He had told people that it would be difficult to follow Him; these two men were not willing to trust Him for strength to do His work. Today, there are many Christians who are saying to their Lord, “I will follow thee . . . but in this one thing, me first.” Some are willing to follow the Lord if He does not ask them to get up early enough on Sunday morning to go to Sun day school and church. Some are willing to follow Him if He does not ask them to speak to anyone about Him as Saviour. Others are willing to follow the Saviour if they do not have to give any of then- money to His work. Others follow Him except in the friends that they choose; some follow Him except in the books and magazines that they read, in the songs that they sing and in the kind of jokes that they tell their friends. Others follow Him when they are with their friends but live for Satan in their home. What is your motto? Pray that you will never say, “Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest, but, me first.” Only He can give to you the courage and the strength to follow wherever He leads. Dec. 11, 1955 Who Is My Neighbor? Luke 10:25-37 Pointers on the Lesson Who is my neighbor? Is he the man next door, in the same community in which I live, a member of the same race, or of the same social group? Or is he anyone who needs help? It was with such questions as these that Jesus dealt in His parable of the good Samaritan. C O N T IN U E D
