Le nouveau trésorier à la Ville de Hawkes- bury, Philippe Timbers, entrera en fonction le 2 mars prochain. Depuis juin dernier, le recrutement du candidat idéal n’avait pas porté fruit et la mairesse de Hawkesbury, Jeanne Charlebois, avait émis, il y a quelques temps, la possi- bilité de recourir à une firme de chasseurs de tête. Finalement, la candidature de M. Timbers est tombée à point. Ce dernier quit- tera son poste de comptable pour la firme BDO à Rockland, où il exerçait depuis cinq ans. Il y avait fait ses débuts alors qu’il était encore étudiant. Diplômé en comptabilité de l’Université d’Ottawa, M. Timbers a par la suite acquis son titre de comptable professionnel agréé (CPA) à l’Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO). Aujourd’hui, l’aspect gestion des finances de ce nouveau poste l’attire parti- culièrement. « Je ne pouvais pas passer à côté d’une telle opportunité. Comme j’ai grandi à Hawkesbury, occuper un poste aussi impor- tant pour ma communauté est un honneur pour moi. »

Non-communication list Miller asked Justice of the Peace Serge Legault to remove Jens Rusch, a family friend, from the non-communication list so that Edgar can contact him to help care for his property. “It’s simple things likemaking sure there is enough oil in the tank,” said Miller. Crown attorney Natalie Trottier had no objection to the two-week delay, or to the removal of Rusch from the list. Edgar requested that Rusch’s wife, Doris, also be removed from the list since she often answers the telephone, which would make it very difficult for him to call. The decision on that will be revealed in two weeks during the next hearing. Miller informed the court that his client has been denied telephone access to council. “Perhaps it’s negligence of the authorities,” said Miller. “He should be encouraged to have contact with council.” Justice of the Peace Legault agreed but stated he had no authority in that matter. Miller stated the bail hearing would likely be set at the next hearing. Edgar will appear through a video feed for the next hearing on February 23 at 1 p.m. Correction Last week, the article published in the Tribune-Express erroneously stated that an assessment orderwas given. “Mr.Miller asked for an assessment order, but I objected,” said Julie Bourgeois, crown attorney. “An assessment order is to determine if Mr. Edgar is fit to stand trial. There is no evidence on record to suggest that he doesn’t understand the process or the charges. Mr. Miller then withdrew his request.”
Robert Edgar made a second appearance at the L’Orignal courtroom on February 9 in connection with the death of his wife, 83-year-old Zdenka (Radja) Sekora. Second-degree murder charges have been filed against the 78-year-old Edgar. However, proceedings will be delayed another two weeks following a request by defense attorney Robert Miller. Miller stated that it was impossible to continue the case without disclosure from the Crown and requested the delay to await receipt of the documents. “We’ve received very little disclosure,” saidMiller. “The case is stalled because of it. It is understandable.” Bourgeois said it would take about a month to collect all of the disclosure. “I have asked officers to get as much disclosure as possible within that month,” said Bourgeois. “I asked for it and I will push to make sure I get that before theMarch 17 date.” A judicial pre-trial is scheduled for March 17. “After preliminary stuff, non-communication orders ,etc., the very first step is the first trial,” Bourgeois explained. “Defense attorney, crown, and judge sit down together to decide where we are going with this trial. We try to plan the proccess a little bit, for example, are we looking at guilty plea or a trial? This is a bit different because it is a murder trial. There may be other issues to address. The only court that has jurisdiction to hear a trial like this is a Superior Court. If someone decides to plead guilty, they can do that in front of a Provincial Court Judge.”
