Such actions can affect property owners, candidates, campaign volunteers and the broader community. The OPP is encouraging residents to respect public and private property and refrain from tampering with election signs. Police warn that those involved in the theft, destruction or unauthorized removal of election signs could face criminal charges, including theft, mischief or other applicable offences. Anyone with information about incidents involving election signs is encouraged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit information online at www. crimestopperssdm.com.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is remin- ding residents that interfering with election signs may constitute a criminal offence as municipal election campaigns get underway. Police have received concerns about the theft, damage and unauthorized removal of election signs and are reminding residents that reported incidents will be investigated. Election signs are an important part of the democratic process, allowing candidates to communicate with voters and residents to express their political support.
