Hometown St.Thomas October 2026

Steve Ogden As a former school board trustee and municipal reporter, I understand local government from both sides of the issues. My Armed Forces background instilled discipline, while my experience as a team leader and in Corporate Communications at CAMI Automotive, sharpened my ability to manage complicated projects. Beyond the boardroom, I’m woven into the city’s cultural fabric as a playwright, director, and musician. The Railway City is facing massive expansion, part of which is unprecedented industrial growth, but will all this truly benefit the average citizen? While global corporations are setting up shop, empty buildings plague our core, and a housing crisis keeps pushing people to the outskirts. As a St. Thomas city councillor, I will truly listen to anyone approaching me directly, and see all concerns through to conclusion. My platform is simple: people come before pure economics. Thriving businesses must be genuine corporate citizens (active members of society with legal, ethical, and social responsibilities to the community and environment). We also need to hold downtown property owners accountable to trans- form vacant spaces into employment or housing solutions. Our city is growing rapidly, and things are bound to get complicated. But together, we can keep things on track without losing the soul, art, and history that are so important to making this city our home.

Seniors Got Talent Geoff Mountenay My name is Geoff Mountenay and I am running for St Thomas City Council. People may know me from either attending Arthur Voaden, performing at the Elgin Theatre Guild or greeting everyone at the St Thomas Rent-all. I am running to bring my perspective to the council as we continue towards this period of growth within the city.

Focusing on investing in social programs, community gardens, community improvement projects and updating our parks and fields with increased shade, water fountains and splash pads will help families and players beat the increasing summer heat. I believe that maximizing our city facilities usage by either discounting rentals for clubs and groups that have shown consistent commitment to using and promoting the city, bringing in new events, promoting the arts and local theatre and updating facilities to help prevent weather cancellations will bring additional revenue to our local shops, restaurants and hotels. Affordable housing will need to be built close to the downtown core with well lit walkways to promote walking and safety. I will always explain my thinking, give you honest feedback and will constantly research to give my most informed opinions or judgements. Please vote for Geoff Mountenay on October 26th. Thank you for your consideration.
