A Floor-to-Ceiling Transformation For more than 50 years, Elgin Carpet One and the Wallpaper Loft have helped local homeowners bring colour, comfort and personality into their homes. Now, the sister stores are transforming their own space with a major renovation and expansion designed to offer customers more selection, greater convenience and inspiration from floor to ceiling. The family-owned business is led by Tom Versteeg, second- generation owner and manager of the Wallpaper Loft; Denise Versteeg, owner and general manager of Elgin Carpet One; and Michael Versteeg, owner and project manager for Elgin Carpet One. Siblings Denise and Michael represent the third generation of the growing family business, having joined their father, Rob Versteeg (now retired), and cousin Tom, who is their uncle, over 10 years ago. The renovation has been years in the making. “For the last 10 years, we have been in desperate need of more warehouse space,” says Denise. “Approximately five years ago, we started to make serious plans and move forward with the expansion project.” The project will add approximately 8,000 square feet, providing much-needed warehouse capacity while also allowing both stores to expand their retail and showroom areas. “Having additional warehouse space allows us to stock more material, maintain project timelines and stability, and negotiate better pricing for our customers,” Denise explains. “It also allows us to expand our existing showroom space, creating new opportunities for showcasing products and expanding our selection.” For customers, the most noticeable change will be the way the two businesses come together within one large, connected space. Visitors will enter through a welcoming reception area before moving naturally through the flooring displays and into the Wallpaper Loft’s new retail space. “Customers will step into a large, linear space starting with our welcome desk, flowing into our flooring division and finishing at the Wallpaper Loft,” says Michael. “The entire layout has been designed to make it easier for customers to explore their options and picture how different products can work together.”
