EFWP involves setting up 12 wind turbine towers at a site located near the Village of St-Bernardin, in The Nation, to generate up to 32 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 10,000 homes, for sale to the province through the Ontario energy grid. The connection site for the project and the energy grid is located in Champlain Township along County Road 10, near Vankleek Hill. Reindler noted that the company is still occupied with field studies for the project and has begun a “door-knocking campaign” inThe Nation to helpmake residents in and around St-Bernardin and other parts of the municipalitymore aware of EFWP and also hear some of their concerns. RES is also doing wildlife impact studies and reviewing the engineering plans for the project. He urged residents from both municipalities to attend the open houses next month.

Next month, residents of bothThe Nation and Champlain Township get a chance at a face-to-face with the people behind the Eastern Fields Wind Power project. Lucas Reindler, development manager for Renewable Energy Systems Canada (RES), presented Champlain Township council with a verbal update of the project during its Nov. 8 regular session. The Eastern Fields Wind Power project was originally called the Parc Eolien Gauthier project when its original proponent, Leader Resources Inc., applied to the provincial government for inclusion on the annual list of approved alternative energy projects for the provincial power supply system. RES is a family-owned energy and construction business, based in London, England, with branch offices in Canada and other countries. Its Montreal branch acquired the Parc Eolien Gauthier project from Leader Resources in August 2015 and has, since, also gotten the project onto the provincial “green energy” list. Renamed Eastern Fields Wind Power (EFWP), the project is now undergoing the next phase of planning, which includes open houses, Dec. 6, in Vankleek Hill in Champlain Township
