Does this sound familiar to you? You may not have personally experienced this scenario, but chances are you’ve heard of someone who has. Sometimes Backup Order misunderstandings happen with no fault on the part of you as the enroller or presenter. But “surprise” Backup Orders happen more often when the Backup Order is not properly explained at the time of enrollment. It can be tempting to gloss over the Backup Order in your Melaleuca Overviews because it’s a shopping concept that isn’t always readily understood. But if you practice our Backup Order basics, explaining the Backup Order will come naturally, and you’ll avoid the pitfalls that can hurt your business.

Congratulations! You’ve just enrolled a new customer. He enrolled because he was excited about one of Melaleuca’s superior products, and you hope he will stay with you for a lifetime. He placed his first order to qualify for all the benefits a Preferred Membership provides—and loves the first order he received. But life got in the way, and you missed following up to help him place his second order. Before you know it, your new customer calls you, angry and confused about the Melaleuca package that just showed up on his doorstep. When he enrolled, he didn’t understand that if he didn’t shop monthly after his first order, he would receive a Backup Order to protect his Preferred Member benefits. So instantly he decides Melaleuca is not for him.
