When questioned whether he was able to race more forward and too the outside approaching the 300m to enable him to take advantage the shift occurring. Rider advised that he was obliged to let another runner take that advantage, due to in his view being too far back. When questioned as to why he maintained running one off the rail behind after the 1100m which had allowed another runner the opportunity to running to his inside, he advised that he had always intended to race one off the rail. FLEM 17/06/2023 Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. CLAC 16/12/2023 Rdr reported with the anticipated leader being withdrawn at the barriers, he allowed his mnt to roll into the lead when no other rdr showed an intent to lead the race. He said when racing in an unfamiliar position and then being required to travel into a strong head wind at various stages of the race, his mnt, with its big weight did not give any response when pressured in the straight and gave ground. Rider reported his mount was not suited by the quick tempo and indicated the gelding would derive benefit from today’s run, noting that it was a late scratching at Sandown on 29 November 2023 when injured in the float en route. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. Stewards will follow up with the stable. CAUL 16/12/2023 Which had not raced since 19 October 2022 due to hind leg bone bruising, was examined by the RV Veterinary Surgeon upon arrival on course and was passed fit to race. Slow to begin. (2L). BDGO 17/12/2023 Slow to begin. Rider reported there may be something amiss with the gelding. A post-race vet exam - OK.
