Les amateurs de musique western se sont réunis pour la 36e édition du Festival western de Wendover lors du weekend, un retour du festival country après une pause de deux ans due à la pandémie. La chaleur et l’humidité répressives de 30 degrés n’allaient pas arrêter la fête au centre communautaire Lucien-Delorme. Le terrain était entouré de roulottes et de véhicules motorisés, de personnes venues de tout le pays pour profiter de la musique country, des camions de nourriture, de l’artisanat, de la danse en ligne et du bingo. Près de 10 000 personnes ont participé au weekend, l’une des plus grandes foules que le festival ait accueillies en près de quatre décennies d’existence. Liette Hotte, présidente du comité organi- sateur, était heureuse de voir tout le monde célébrer l’été, rencontrer de vieux amis et s’en faire de nouveaux. Avec la pandémie et les problèmes de santé publique, le comité d’organisation ne savait pas comment les gens allaient réagir au festival. «Les habitants de Wendover nous ont vraiment soutenus, a déclaré Mme Hotte. Nous sommes vraiment heureux du résultat de cette année.»

Returning are Alicia Howse, Mary-Louise Sturman, and Hope Boyle. Also returning is Gianmarco Maggiore, a student worker from 2021 who has recently secured a full-time position at the SNC as a Water Resources Analyst. “We look forward to hiring young and enthusiastic students every summer,” said Coleman. “They are our future generation of leaders and will hopefully go on to become good environmental stewards.”

The South Nation Conservation (SNC) hired eight students and recent grads as part of its summer employment program this year. Whether working in a conservation area, supporting natural hazard programs, or delivering environmental outreach programs, students become familiar with how a non- profit organization operates while gathe- ring experience and encountering career opportunities. “We’re proud to secure investments that contribute to our local economy and give talented students an opportunity to work in their field of study,” said SNC General Mana- ger Angela Coleman in a release. «We are grateful for the hard work and enthusiasm that our local youth bring to support our
