Alfred-Plantagenet Township council approved an engineering review of the Alfred fire station this year. Results of the study will help with next year’s budget plan for doing neccessary rehabilitation work on the building.

Quand doit-on changer sa prothèse dentaire Autant les dents naturelles que les prothèses dentaires subissent de l’usure au fil du temps. Il est donc normal de devoir changer ses prothèses après un certain temps pour maintenir une bonne santé dentaire. Alors, comment savoir quand il est temps de remplacer son dentier? Voici des raisons et des pistes de réflexion qui vous aideront à déterminer quand vous devriez passer à l’action. Les signes Lorsqu’un patient vient me consulter pour une évaluation de sa prothèse dentaire, je regarde plusieurs aspects. En premier lieu, je vérifie s’il y a une instabilité à la base de la prothèse. Je regarde aussi l’usure de celle-ci puisqu’il arrive que le patient n’en soit même pas conscient. Je cherche aussi à voir s’il y a d’autres conditions anormales avec la prothèse. Il arrive que le patient ne se rende même pas compte que ses dents sont usées, car il a sa prothèse depuis si longtemps qu’il a oublié ce qu’est la sensation d’avoir des dents neuves! Alors avec cette information en main, quand est-il le temps d’opter pour une nouvelle prothèse dentaire? Éviter les problèmes à long terme Premièrement, si vous manquez de soutien, votre mâchoire se détériorera plus rapidement projetant ainsi votre menton vers l’avant. Cela peut entraîner de graves troubles de l’articulation temporomandibulaire qui affectent votre mâchoire. Deuxièmement, vous aurez de plus en plus de rides apparentes sur votre visage ce qui ne fait habituellement pas plaisir aux patients. Un autre facteur important à considérer est que plus vous gardez votre vielle prothèse longtemps et que vous vous y habituez, plus il sera difficile de changer par la suite. Il existe de nombreuses autres raisons pour passer à l’action qui peuvent être discutées avec un professionnel, mais ces informations vous donnent un début de réponse. Si vous n’avez encore aucune idée de quand il est temps de changer votre prothèse, je vous dirais que c’est habituellement entre 5 et 8 ans. Après ce délai, la majorité des prothèses deviennent nuisibles aux patients. Je vois souvent des patients qui ont une prothèse du haut de plus de 10 ans qui se disent confortables avec celle- ci. Toutefois une aussi longue période peut créer des problèmes à long terme, ce que l’on veut absolument éviter. Je comprends que plusieurs gens craignent le changement et repoussent ce moment. Je ne parle donc pas ici de faire des changements radicaux si ce n’est pas nécessaire, mais plutôt d’opter pour quelque chose de similaire à ce que vous avez déjà afin de stabiliser le tout et d’optimiser votre condition. A volunteer group is organizing a com- munity garden for residents of Rockland to bring people together through fresh, healthy and sustainable food. Organizers of the garden project hope to offer a place for community members to grow their own vegetables, share knowledge, and work collaboratively to provide fresh food to residents and organizations in need around Clarence-Rockland. Sarah Lacombe started the project back in January with her partner Matthew Byrne after someone on a Facebook group asked if the city had a community garden they could join. The question stuck with Lacombe and she immediately got to work. “I just sort of jumped in and said let’s do it,” said Lacombe, now president of the Rockland Community Garden. Growing up on a hobby farm, Lacombe was always interested in growing her own food. But as someone who rents her home, investing time and money in a backyard garden is not feasible. Lacombe believes she is not alone in this situation. “I saw my own need to live a little more sustainably and have access to inexpensive organic food,” said Lacombe. “And I’m not the only one. Rockland is really expanding and a lot of the newer housing project don’t really have backyards. Maybe enough room

for a barbecue, but that’s it.” The Rockland Community Garden will ope- rate as a non-profit and offer memberships for a plot in the garden. Members will be given access to tools, water from rain barrels and other resources to support their garde- ning. Residents will also be able to volunteer by helping grow vegetables for organizations like the food banks, or assist in the admi- nistration of the garden in exchange for a portion of the harvest. In the end, Lacombe just wants the garden to be accessible to all residents of Clarence-Rockland, and give them the opportunity to meet and support their neighbours. “After the last few years, we need something good, something positive,” said
Lacombe. “It’s not just a space for people to come and garden, but a space for people to come together and do something beneficial as a community.” The team behind the garden is in early talks with municipal officials to discuss the city’s involvement. Lacombe is hopeful the city will provide a plot of land, access to water if required and some financial support. Lacombe is preparing to present the full project proposal to city council in August. In the meantime, Lacombe’s team is looking for volunteers and feedback from the community regarding what they would like to see as part of the garden’s offerings through their website (www.rocklandcommu- nitygarden.ca) Facebook page.

How to be a responsible hiker
Hiking has become an increasingly popular summer activity. However, the influx of inexperienced hikers on popular trails has led to various problems. Here are a few tips on how to be a considerate hiker. Respect nature Bring back all your garbage, including apple cores and other biodegradable materials. Also, make sure to stay on marked trails. If you stray off to create a shortcut or go around a puddle, you could trample fragile plants. You should also avoid picking up sand, flowers, rocks and other parts of nature. What’s more, don’t disturb or feed wild animals. Be civil Most hikers want to enjoy a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. Shouting or listening to loud music, for example, is rude and inappropriate. However, a friendly “hello” or a smile is always appreciated. Additionally, don’t stop in the middle of a trail. You should also let fast walkers go around you and prioritize those climbing if you’re descending. Moreover, share the beautiful views by not spending too long taking pictures at scenic outlooks.
Be prepared and careful If you’re not well prepared or don’t know your limits, you could put yourself in danger. Therefore, bring plenty of food and water, even on short walks. You could be outdoors much longer than anticipated if you get injured. You should also bring the right equipment like a good pair of shoes, a first aid kit and a whistle. Finally, choose a trail that matches your abilities and respect all trail signs and instructions.

Les amateurs de musique western se sont réunis pour la 36e édition du Festival western de Wendover lors du weekend, un retour du festival country après une pause de deux ans due à la pandémie. La chaleur et l’humidité répressives de 30 degrés n’allaient pas arrêter la fête au centre communautaire Lucien-Delorme. Le terrain était entouré de roulottes et de véhicules motorisés, de personnes venues de tout le pays pour profiter de la musique country, des camions de nourriture, de l’artisanat, de la danse en ligne et du bingo. Près de 10 000 personnes ont participé au weekend, l’une des plus grandes foules que le festival ait accueillies en près de quatre décennies d’existence. Liette Hotte, présidente du comité organi- sateur, était heureuse de voir tout le monde célébrer l’été, rencontrer de vieux amis et s’en faire de nouveaux. Avec la pandémie et les problèmes de santé publique, le comité d’organisation ne savait pas comment les gens allaient réagir au festival. «Les habitants de Wendover nous ont vraiment soutenus, a déclaré Mme Hotte. Nous sommes vraiment heureux du résultat de cette année.»

Les auteurs indépendants ont souvent du mal à commercialiser et à vendre leurs livres à un public plus large et les maisons d’édition sont moins intéressées par les livres destinés aux petits marchés. Le Salon de Livres est un moyen parmi d’autres de soutenir leurs collègues et de les sensibiliser. “Les auteurs indépendants n’ont pas la grosse machine de l’industrie de l’édition derrière eux”, a déclaré Saad. “C’est beau- coup plus de travail que la simple écriture”. Les organisateurs espèrent que les gens viendront et seront inspirés et motivés pour commencer à écrire ce roman qu’ils ont longtemps repoussé. Quinze auteurs franco-ontariens seront présents et seront rejoints par des collè- gues du Québec également, tous auteurs indépendants. Un nouveau salon du livre à Limoges vise à faire connaître la qualité et la diversité des auteurs franco-ontariens indépendants de la province, en donnant aux résidents l’occasion de rencontrer des auteurs qui publient des œuvres dans leur communauté. Deux auteurs franco-ontariens de Limoges, Valérie Saad et Marie-Claude Dubé, organisent le premier salon de livre pour les auteurs franco-ontariens indépendants. Saad et Dubé cherchent à promouvoir la qualité de l’écriture française provenant de l’Ontario. Les résidents de toute la région rencontreront les auteurs, apprendront à les connaître et seront finalement exposés à leurs œuvres. “Nous voulons mettre en lumière les auteurs franco-ontariens, mettre en valeur les auteurs de la francophonie dans notre ville”, a déclaré Mme Dubé. Bercier-Gauthier, who grew up on a dairy farm near Treadwell, decided to start making her own gelato out of love for Italy and its culture. Their trip to Italy in 2018 was what led to them opening Café sur la Rive the year after. Nonna’s Gelato will also be available at Les Fruits du Poirier near St-Eugène and at Les Matantes on Highway 34 near Hawkes- bury. Bercier-Gauthier eventually wants to expand to selling across the entirety of Prescott and Russell counties. Café sur la Rive and Nonna’s Gelato is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday and is closed Mondays.
Nonna’s Gelato opened July 9 in Plantagenet, offering fresh homemade gelato and a scenic riverside view. Operating out of Café sur la Rive, Nonna’s Gelato is located beside the South Nation River on Water Street in Plantagenet and is the only establishment in Canada to have a genuine gelato machine from Bologna, Italy. The owner, Nathalie Bercier-Gauthier, learned to make gelato from an Italian master in Toronto. Bercier-Gauthier is very particular about the ingredients she uses. Milk and cane sugar are the main ingredients, but the fresh fruit and flavourings are what make the treat so delicious. Nonna’s Gelato prefers locally

De Rockland (Ontario), est décédé le jeudi 14 juillet 2022, à l'âge de 86 ans. Il était l'époux de feu Pierrette Serrurier; le fils de feu Raphaël Danis et de feu Olivine Dallaire.
