Dear Brother Grand Polemarch Battles: It is my absolute pleasure to submit this letter in support of Brother John F. Burrell for the Elder Watson Diggs Award. As a high school student I had the opportunity to participate in the Jacksonville Alumni Chapter Guide Right Kappa League program under the direction of Brother Burrell’s leadership in 1998 – 1999. It was during that time that I was introduced to the motto of “Achievement”. Brother Burrell ensured that as high school students, we were equipped with the tools we needed for post-secondary success. Eighteen years later I had the pleasure of serving as a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity in the role of Membership Training Academy Chairman for the Jacksonville Alumni Chapter under the advisement of Brother Burrell. It was during that time that I fully understood the motto, “Achievement in every field of human endeavor”. John Burrell’s commitment to excellence is unequivocal, exemplified by his perspicuous work of Kappa, and fueled by the undying love for our Grand organization. Our Illustrious Founder, Elder Watson Diggs led the charge when Kappa Alpha Psi was birthed out of adversity in 1911. Today, Brother Burrell is leading our Fraternity as the Executive Director in what will be marked as a critical time in the history of our nation, young black men, and Kappa Alpha Psi. Founder Diggs led with pride, dignity, and grandeur, such making this award appropriate for Brother Burrell as he has worked tirelessly to instill and lead with those characteristics. I can truly say that over the years Brother Burrell’s compassion and commitment to the work of Kappa has helped shape me into the man of Kappa that I am today. Therefore, it is my hope that full consideration be given to John F. Burrell for the Elder Watson Diggs Award.
