Clarence-Rockland’s two English high schools will have a huge presence at the eastern regional track-and-field cham- pionships this season. Rockland District High School (RDHS) has a 19-member team for the EasternOnta- rio Secondary School Athletics Association’s (EOSSAA) meet in Brockville after all its athletes qualified with top-four placings at the Prescott-Russell regionals last week. St. Francis Xavier High School in Hammond has almost as big a team going to EOSSAA with 17 of its athletes qualifying at Prescott- Russell. «We were fifth overall as a school,» said SFX Coach Scott Stoqua, «and the girls fi- nished second overall for their group, which is excellent. I think this is the largest team that we’ve had going to EOSSAA in the past few years.» Stoqua listed Gabrielle Campeau, Na- keisha Borgella, Charlotte Hyndman, Sa- mantha Gauthier, Stephanie Koch and Colin Gervais as possible EOSSAA finalists based on their performance at the Prescott-Russell regionals. RDHS track coach Karen Kryviak is satis- fied with the overall performance of her ath- letes at the Prescott-Russell regionals. lified for at least one event for EOSSAA. «In the sprints, we were strong, we were the best» said Kryviak, «and, in the relays, we had four relay teams and we won every relay that we did.» Kryviak expects RDHS will enjoy more success at the EOSSAA with a chance of some of its track-and-field athletes moving further up the competition ladder. «We have four that have a possibility of going to OFSSA,» she said, «if they can improve their performance just a little bit more.» Kryviak’s picks for RDHS athletes with potential for the Ontario Federation of Se- condary School Athletics Associations com-
