MARCH Taste and see that you never want to miss the Taste of Homewood , usually mid-month, or any of the other nearby cities’ Taste events! Speaking of food, The Exceptional Foundation’s Annual Chili Cookoff is iconic, with over 14,000 attendees each year enjoying live music, the kids’ zone, and all the chili they can eat (in early March)! Birmingham Parent Magazine ’s free Exceptional Lives Expo is also in March, the perfect place to explore local resources, connect with support groups, and enjoy interactive activities designed for individuals with special needs. Hip hip hurray, Easter is on its way (Mar. 28)! Make sure to attend one of the dozens of egg hunts and take your picture with the Easter Bunny. And

you can’t forget the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations or Cottontail’s Village Festival , Christmas Village’s smaller sister (Mar. 5–7). You’ll want to stop by the Cherry Blossoms Festival at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in late March. APRIL Spring has arrived, and it’s brought with it all kinds of fabulous festivals! Festa Italiana (Apr. 10) is a taste of Italy in Birmingham, with Italian food, dancing, a grape stomping competition, and more. The St. Elias Lebanese Food Festival (Apr. 16–17) is also a can’t miss—be sure to watch the traditional dancing and eat a meat pie! The Homewood Block Party , usually in late-April, is also a hoot, with music, food, beverages, and family-

friendly activities for all ages (like bouncy houses!). Magic City Art Connection is a three-day arts festival featuring juried fine artists, hands-on art workshops for kids, and live music and dance performances (Apr. 23–25). Corks & Chefs: A Taste of Birmingham is at the heart of it all, serving up the best food the city has to offer. If you love a heart-tugging Nicholas Sparks romance, be sure to see the Broadway show The Notebook (Apr. 6–11). Everything you love about The Notebook comes to life: the rain, the tear-inducing tenderness, the characters, and more.
