Day of the Dead
Glow Wild
Village Festival (Nov. 4–8). It has everything from soup mixes and home decor to boutique clothing and photos with Santa! Moss Rock Festival (Nov. 7–8) is a must-visit art fest, with food, a beer garden, and all kinds of unique art displays. Plus, Mamma Mia! is heading to the BJCC (Nov. 17–22), and this jukebox musical will make you smile, laugh, and want to sing along to the hit songs by ABBA. If you’re a Christmas-before- Thanksgiving shopper, head to Homewood’s Christmas Open House (Nov. 5). You’ll also want to go to the 79th Annual National Veterans Day Parade (Nov. 11). DECEMBER It’s the most wonderful (and hectic) time of the year—to get your family in the festive spirit, go look at Birmingham Zoo’s
animal lanterns at Glow Wild . Enjoy a taste of nostalgia at the Alabama Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker (Dec. 12–22) or by watching a Christmas classic at Alabama Theatre’s Holiday Film Series . Shop for Christmas gifts at all of the Christmas Open House events , including in English Village, Mountain Brook Village, Crestline Village, and more. Red Mountain Theatre’s Holiday Spectacular is always a hit, with dance numbers to classic carols to modern holiday hits (Dec. 4–20), as is Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s Sleigh Bell & Symphony: A Holiday Classic (Dec. 1). JANUARY (2027) Just because it’s cold outside does not mean there aren’t plenty of fun things to do! Use our indoor play guide to get inspired. Visit the free Birmingham Museum
of Art , experiment with hands-on STEM experiments at McWane Science Center , run around at Activate , or even a stop in to your local library for story time . You can also celebrate MLK Day by visiting Birmingham Civil Rights Institute . FEBRUARY If you love love, you’ll want to go see the Broadway production of The Sound of Music (Feb. 2–7). You’ll be happily “Trapped” in this romantic tale of Maria and the von Trapp family! If you’re a sports fan, head to a UAB or Samford basketball game or gymnastics meet . There are also always special Valentine’s Day events so you can celebrate with your spouse. And while Birmingham is no New Orleans, you’ll find a few Mardi Gras celebrations scattered throughout the city.
