physical therapy clinic in Harrisburg. She was working as a physical therapy assistant, and I was preparing to go back to school to earn my physical therapy degree. We were friends for a while, but I was interested in getting to know her on a deeper level, so I asked her out on a date. After a successful first date, I continued to ask her out, and she continued to say yes. One of the coolest dates we went on was a tour of the Hershey factory. There, we opted in for the Truffles for Couples experience where the staff walked us through making our own truffles. At the end, we got a cute little box with our chocolate. I think Amanda wanted to save the box and the truffles, but the staff told us to eat the truffles within a week or else they would go bad. We ate them that day, and

wasn’t hard to see she was the woman for me, and it would have been silly not to admit that to myself just because we’d only been dating for a short amount of time. When I told my family I thought Amanda was the one, my little sister told me she wasn’t surprised at all. She said she knew Amanda was the one for me since her first time meeting her. I bought flowers, a stuffed Snoopy — her favorite cartoon character — coloring books, and a box of crayons to give Amanda as a going-away gift. After I handed her the presents, I got down on one knee, opened the box of Crayola crayons to reveal the ring, and asked her to be my wife. She screamed and said yes, and the rest is history. I am thankful for Amanda every single day. She is the love of my life. We’ve been together for a total of six years and married for three. We have a beautiful son and are expecting our second child in April — a little girl. I’m thankful for all the years I have spent with Amanda, and I look forward to watching our family grow. Happy Valentine’s Day, Amanda. I love you!

FALL IN LOVE WITH FITNESS

When you get ready to exercise, the last thing you probably think towear is a bow tie or evening dress. If that’s the case, then it’s time to broaden your approach to fitness and step out onto the dance floor. Thewideworld of

Don’t have a partner willing to join you on the dance floor? No problem! Many dance classes anticipate having solo students and arrange for partners to cycle through, so everyone has the opportunity to practice. Of course, ballroomdance isn’t your only option for a fun workout. If relying on a partner isn’t your style, there are plenty of

dancemight hold the secret to exercise that you—and your partner—will actually enjoy! Whether you enjoy a romantic waltz, an intimate salsa, or a fun swing, dance promises a full-body workout. Your legs, glutes, back, core, and even arms are engaged when you feel the music. A study from the University of Brighton in England found that dance can burn 600 calories per hour, depending on the intensity of the dance, which is as much as running for an hour! In addition to toning your muscles, dancing also improves balance and coordination. Your brain is engaged as you memorize the steps and spins, a health perk youmiss when you’re on the treadmill or lifting weights.

other dance genres you can groove to. Consider trying K-pop (Korean popmusic), Zumba, hip-hop, ballet, tap, and even belly dancing, if you’re feeling adventurous. With dance, exercise becomes an activity you look forward to. You no longer need to treat exercise as a dreaded chore week after week. Even if you have two left feet, remember that dancing is an acquired skill. With a willingness to learn, over time, you could dance circles around Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. February Testimonials Don’t Just Take Our Word for It

ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE! “I returned to Gilbert PT to get help for a frozen shoulder and lower back pain. The frozen shoulder caused a loss of motion in my right arm, even doing the simplest thing, such as washing my hair. Dr. Gilbert and his staff did a fantastic job of ‘unfreezing’my shoulder, restoring full movement, and strengthening my lower back muscles. The PTs worked with me on stretching techniques to stretch out my shoulder and taught me exercises that help retain its movement which I will practice daily. Dr. Gilbert and his PTs also showed me stretching techniques that keep my lower back pain-free. This is my go-to place for PT. The PTs and the assistants made it an enjoyable experience.” –Charles T.

AMAZING RESULTS AND STAFF! “I really didn’t believe in PT. I did not want to come. I did everything they suggested and improved in only three visits. I came in with severe lower back pain, and I am leaving after three weeks with no back pain. Thank you to everyone on the staff! Dr. Chris is an amazing doctor and his staff is top- notch! A++++! I will miss y’all so much. Thanks again.” –Andrea E.

RECOVERY STARTS BEFORE SURGERY Are You Ready for a Knee Replacement?

a total knee replacement, long-term recovery exercises won’t start for weeks. Long-TermRecovery Once your body is ready to withstand some light movement, a physical therapist will start with range-of-motion and strengthening exercises. These exercises will reduce swelling and help you begin walking andmoving so you can resume your normal activities. The road to recovery after a total knee replacement is long and trying. It will push you physically and drain youmentally. This is why a proper plan of action and support is key to helping you get back on your feet and walking pain-

Total knee replacements are one of the most complicated surgeries someone can go through. Whether it’s because of joint damage from arthritis or from bone diseases, many people choose to go through a total knee replacement to reduce the debilitating knee pain they experience on a daily basis. With the removal of major components of the joint, a knee replacement can keep someone off their feet for weeks or evenmonths. This is why physical therapy is a crucial component to beginning your road to recovery, and that road starts before surgery. Before Surgery Being in the best possible health before you go under the knife can drastically reduce your recovery time. In some cases, it can even help eliminate the need for short-term care. This means losing excess body weight, quitting smoking, and starting a diet that reduces inflammation. And while good general health is important, strengthening the muscles around the knee is evenmore crucial to ensuring an effective recovery process. After Surgery Once your surgery is finished, youmay stay at the hospital a few days to recover. During this time, your therapist will educate you on proper icing techniques, how to elevate your leg, and the use of compression to reduce swelling. The goal of the initial recovery process is to reduce swelling andmanage pain. This allows time for the incision to heal and for your body to adjust. This process varies fromperson to person, but after
