Emelia Noelle Pompa (Emmy), is a 9-year-old whirlwind of creativity and curiosity! Currently she is in the 4th grade at Ralph Dunlap School in Orcutt, where she is a straight "A" student. She absolutely loves her teachers, excels in all areas and loves math and reading. Emmy likes to spend her time playing travel basketball, recreational basketball, soccer, learning piano and guitar, drawing, listening to Taylor Swift, reading books, singing and doing anything her older brother Sammy does. Emmy is extremely compassionate, caring and loving to both people and animals alike. She will be the first to ask you if you are okay and do all she can to cheer you up when you are down. She is full of life and has an infectious laugh that puts a smile on your face when you hear it. She brings sunshine to everyone around her.
Emmy loves spending time with friends and family. She has two pets, a golden retriever named Millie and a tuxedo cat named Mittens.
Earlier this year Emmy’s basketball coach convinced her to try the Elks Hoop Shoot. It’s held at Minami Park, where she was the only girl in her age group. Emmy started the journey with 15 out of 25 free throws in the first competition. Next, she competed at the district event at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks competing against 8 other girls. She made 22 out of 25 free throws and secured her spot in the state competition in Modesto. Three weeks later she competed against 9 girls in the state championship. Once again, she made 22 out of 25 free throws, only this time she tied! Two tie breakers later, she won with a total of 31 out of 35 free throws. Emmy competed against 1 place winners in four other states and took 2 overall with 20 out of 25 shots, only one shot away from 1 place. The entire journey from Santa Maria to Boulder City was guided by the Elks incredible Youth Activities Chairman Eddie Navarro and his wife Maria. Emmy was so excited when she got back home and has already started practicing for next year. st nd st She and her family are beyond grateful for all these wonderful Hoop Shoot experiences and memories that the Elks have provided.
