Village of a million people Munich is a tranquil haven of satisfaction and enjoyment, with countless things for you to experience T he German city of Munich, home to around 1.5 million residents, isn’t Berlin. Nor does it have a desire to be. The capital of Bavaria is of- ten more reminiscent of a quaint cluster of small, cobblestoned towns than a ma- jor metropolis; its pleasant, scattered urban structure has earned it the nickname “Mil- lionendorf”, (“Village of a million people”). Oktoberfest, the annual beer festival that takes place from late September to ear- ly October and attracts masses of tourists, perhaps isn’t only one of the most famous – or rather infamous – and best things to do in Munich, but anywhere in Germany. But Munich is also worth visiting when beer drinking games aren’t the only pas- time. You are awaited by numerous galler- ies, top restaurants, museums, cycle lanes and lush, green gardens. Technology and industry bring an artistic, modern sensi- bility to the outskirts of the city, providing an interesting contrast against the classic historic city centre.

Platz hotel

Where to stay Munich‘s hotel scene is diverse, with options for almost every budget. When it comes to four-star hotels, the Platzl Hotel represents a traditional choice. The warm wood tones of the interior extend from the lobby panelling to the built-in closets in the rooms. Simultaneously elegant and home- ly, it is very comfortable and occupies a fan- tastic location. The hotels of the groups Cocoon -Hauptbahnhof, Stachus and Sendlinger Tor are scattered around the city, with the Hotel am Sendlinger Tor situated be- tween Marienplatz central square and the urban, youthful, student district of Werks- viertel-Mitte. These are extremely clean and stylishly thoughtful options for budget
